Evo 8 or 9 as first car at 16?
I would say no. At 16, you just got your license and like other people have said before, just because you get good grades doesn't mean you will be a good driver behind the wheel. I JUST bought the evo at 24, and while its been my dream car for 5-6 years, I'm glad I waited. At 16/17 I wouldn't have been able to handle what it has being a newbie driver. Work your way up. You'll be glad you did.
Not a good idea get a nice GTS instead alot cheaper to maintain. Some 17yo kid in NY just killed 4 of his friend last week on the highway in his brand new '12 STi wrapped it around a tree so starting that fast is no good mane. Not saying your reckless just build experience around the wheel with a beater and when your established get that evo!

Get a Mini!!!! (or a fiat 500 abarth) There's no way you should own an evo for your first car, you'll pay what the car's worth in insurance in a few years, which just isn't worth it plus you'll want to mod it, and won't be able to afford maintenance etc. Mini's are crazy fun, they get good mileage win, win, yes I want one, but the new fiat has me intrigued too. Seriously though take away point, don't get an evo get a mini.
Funny how quickly this forum has changed. If this same question was asked 2 years ago, the thread would be 20 pages long with most of it being YOLO, swag, jealousy, haters BS.
As much as you probably don't want to hear this I'm going to agree with most of the others here and say no.
Now before I just say no and leave you hanging, here is why.
Its your first car, not saying that you will most likely be a bad driver but everyone is bound to make a mistake, usually quite minor. I'm not just talking about you either. Even the experienced drivers driving by you will make mistakes.
Getting a beater you could care less about/or cheap to fix would be better.
Imagine something were to happen to your EVO (assuming you got one), it would probably be a decent amount of money to fix. I'm not sure about your financial situation but at 16 it is quite difficult to maintain a car with a minimum wage job.
Maintenance and modding (you will mod) is another factor as well. You will simply not be able to afford it, especially working part time and school.
Insurance, gas, maintenance, and mods will all be too much.
Also, if you know you have an ego, do not get one. Absolutely do not. I'm not saying you're immature but at 16, you probably will do something dangerous to prove something to your friends. Whether it be launching at every light or just going for a top speed run. It is bound to happen if you have a capable car.
Focus on school, get the car you want later. Don't get a job and have zero savings from it just to afford your car.
I know this first hand because I bought my STi when I was 18, and I do regret it. So take it from me, get something cheap for your first car. Chances are you will enjoy it more anyway.
An evo has quite a bit of power, but you won't be able to do anything with that power on the streets without breaking the law and I will guarantee you that. I can't even get past 5k rpm without speeding in the city.

This. When you first get your license your bound to make little mistakes, pulling up to far in a parking spot and tapping the front bumper, backing into things (hopefully not other cars) but you get the point. Would you want those things to happen in your Evo, or in a car that you didn't pay an arm and a leg for?
Not like I need to add to the convo, but I basically got started with Mitsubishi cars the same way. I wanted an EVO, wasn't old enough or making enough money, so I settled with a 2004 Ralliart. Great starting platform, got me real familiar with the Lancer and how to work on them. I totaled it,
, but I learned my lesson and didn't total an EVO or kill myself. Pick up a used Lancer, drive it for a few years, pay it off, learn the in's and out's of the platform, and when you're ready to move up to the EVO, you'll be ready, and you'll (hopefully) have a Daily Driver when the POS breaks down.

I kind of miss having a beater car because those are honestly really fun because if you hear one creak or something that doesn't sound the way it should you won't worry about it. Plus if you're new to driving you're bound to get into your first accident. It happens to everyone, trust me. Wait a few years until you mature a bit and then an evo will have your name all over it. I was the exact same way as you and I'm really glad I waited.
"Eventually the things you own end up owning you." - Tyler Durden. So true unless you're so rich you could just buy them all again.
Defer gratification until you are prepared to get a deal. The longer you wait the more prepared you're likely to be, the better deal you'll swing and the more money you'll have for other things. Now if only I could go back in time 10 years to listen to my own advice.
Hey guys. I've been wondering, if an Evo 8 or 9 is a bad idea to get as a first car. People are saying its way too fast blah blah blah and some are saying if you don't drive reckless ill be fine. I'm a 4.0 GPA student, thats why I'm getting rewarded.
Now, I only drive about 2 miles to get to my highschool. After sports season is over, I will be looking for a job so I can pay off insurance and what not (I live In a small town so a minimum wage job is not hard to find). I've been driving my dads Honda civic around (illegally) for about a year now. But not long distance or anything. There's barely any cops where I live.
I just need some advice and maybe another person out there that already experienced having an Evo as a first car tell me how it went? And the payments? Please help and Thanks a lot

It's really going to be up to you but if you're in athletics and will be responsible for the financial obligations of the vehicle, it's a terrible idea. I know because I was once in your shoes with a 02WRX years ago. There was no free time, all my hours after class were either at work or at home studying. With your athletics I don't see how you can afford it without parental assistance.
Find something for less, see if you'll get some money on top and apply that as a backup fund. You can get an 02-04 wrx for pretty cheap these days, if you insist on a turbo car.
Oh yeah, and then there will always be immature people who think it's funny to mess with cars, especially when driven by younger people. If you're in high school, then people might prank you by doing something to your car, or even if you just upset someone, they might mess with your car even worse.
I remember when I was in college (I believe it was right after I finished my fifth year and was just sticking around in student housing for that last summer), some guy peed on my car at night. But I did sleep with his girlfriend though.
