I can not, for the life of me, figure out what this light is for. It looks kinda like two headlights facing opposite directions, and its right to the left of the "H" on the temp gauge.

All my mobile googling has lead me to intercooler sprayer topics lol

Parking lights / headlights. Your car has probably been wired for DRLs.

 

Yes, that indicator lamp. By "position lights", do you mean parking lights? Why would I need an indicator telling me that my parking lights are on?

Granted, I just bought the car Monday, but I've put close to 600 miles on it, and I have never seen that light come on or noticed DRLs. I was just driving down the highway tonight about 60 miles into my trip and it came on. I turned the lights & car off/on when I stopped for gas, light didn't come back on. I drove another 100 miles to my destination, still no light.

Before I left I make a short stop and I deliberately left the headlights on. When the turbo timer turned the car off it turned all the lights off too. I turned the switch off before starting the car back up. Shortly before the light came on, I had stopped at a well lit rest stop.

Now, can anybody tell me what would cause that light to come on?

Light came back again last night immediately as I turned the headlights on. At the next stop, the light stayed off

 

Not sure why the dash light would come on while you were driving, unless you turned the running lights on. But I do know that if ya start the car, turn the running lights on while the door is shut, turn off the engine, & then open the door the car dings a couple times & then shuts the lights off automatically. It also turns them back on when ya start the car back up next time if ya haven't changed anything on the stalk. Easy way to have "daytime" running lights without turning them on & off all the time, or running your battery down in case ya forgot. Random on/off without you doing anything? Sounds like ya got some electric gremlins to hunt down. Good luck.

 

I just assumed it was the parking light indicator. The cluster lights are always on when the key is on, and whenever I turn the parking/headlights on this light comes on. Seemed normal to me. :shrug:

 

Since I've owned my VIII the light is always on once I turn on my lights hmm o well lol

 

I was in my moms new Subaru the other day and hers has the exact same icon, simply telling you that the lights are on.
