newbie from san diego

whats goin on everybody. i just wanted to introduce myself and maybe get some questions answered since mostly everyone here has experience with the eves.

i fell in love with the evo 9 and i really wanna find out more about the car in general. ive done some basic research but there are some things i think you guys would be able to help me out with in order to clarify my idea of how good it is to get one. so some background information..

i got my first car in high school and it was a 2002 rsx-s. i loved that car dearly, the 6 speed transmission and 200hp made it a very fun toy but unfortunately i was very young and reckless with it so i took that car to hell and back. i eventually sold that car and went to the dealership because i thought that would be a better idea for me since I'm a student and needed a car. so i ended up leasing a 2012 mustang base model. now i like the car and everything, i havent had any problems with it, but it feels like im missing something when it comes to driving since its an automatic

so ive had the mustang for about a year and a half now and im almost at the end of my lease. as i was thinking about what to do with my car i had a genius idea, get rid of it and get something i REALLY want.. the evo 9 so i have some time left but i imagine that once my lease is up ill lease to buy the car and either trade it in for some sort of compensation or sell it.

i fell in love with driving stick before i even had my license, so upgrading to an evo 9 would make me one happy driver. but i still need some help with basic information.

im still a student at a university and also have a part time job, so commuting is a big part of my every day routine. so from an evo admirer to the owners, i want to know what your average mileage is, and what i might be able to do to increase the mileage via bolt ons, mods, and tunes. i dont have thousands to invest in the car but i would love to get it up to the mid 300's in HP and torque without sacrificing too much gas. i average 22 mpg with my mustang so anywhere between 20 and 24 mpg would be ideal for me owning this car.

i was also very very interested in the mr model until i recently went to the mitsubishi dealership to check one out (they didnt have any :/) but i also asked about the transmission problems since ive heard they are kind of prevalent with these cars. the salesmen told me that the tranny problems only occurred with the mr models, so there goes driving a 6 speed again. but i wanted to get some feedback from you guys since im not very trusting of salesmen.

other than that i know im giving up some amenities with the comfort of the mustang and interior, but honestly, im a simple guy so i dont need much to make me happy other than the fact that im actually driving my car rather than just hitting the gas and brake pedals. so if you guys have any sort of advice or can answer some of my questions i would love to hear your feedback.

thanks again,
hopefully a soon to be evo 9 owner
peter

PS i havent driven the car yet but i know once i do that dotted line is going to be signed
cheers

Welcome and good luck in your search for a 9. I do love mine. The stock Evo should be in that MPG range you mention, but frankly, who cares? If you are looking for MPG, go buy something else. If you want a truely awesome performance car, the Evo 9 should do it. I traded my E36 M3 for a 9 and could not be happier. My advice: save up, read up and buy the best one you can find. Have it checked out by an established Evo shop, if possible - worth every penny.

Welcome! I agree you should be able to find an evo with that mpg...I'm putting 1100cc injectors in this next month and I'll still be making 25mpg. Just have it tuned properly and you'll be fine. It's further north around LA but Road Race Engineering can help you out when you get your evo.
