Oh Jesus.

Ok, first of all this is a discussion forum - if I can't post a question here, where should I post the question?

Second, I'm not trying to reach a final verdict about anything. I know the answer to this debate. My QUESTION was: why do SST owners refuse to call their vehicles what they are, which is an automatic?

So next time, before you puff up your interwebs chest, try exercising a little analytical discipline before you make comments like that ya big nobody.

I guess I'm lost. I'm not really understanding the debate. This type of transmission has been around for awhile now (although not as advanced). The 3G Eclipse had it. My 4G Eclipse has it. I should check my window sticker. I'm pretty sure it listed it as an automatic.

Eitherway, I think the MR has a great transmission. But my vote is AUTO

I will ask if then, if you know the answer and you are personally satisfied why create a new thread based on a prior thread that generated heated responses. It seems like you're trying to validate your personal opinion through others.

Holy Fk. Try to pay attention.
I did not start a thread titled: Is the SST a manual or automatic?
THIS I know the answer to.

I started a thread (at the request of others actually) asking why SST owners refuse to call their cars automatics. I DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS THUS I POSTED A THREAD ABOUT IT.

Jesus fking christ.

This is why I have such a huge problem with this debate. I work in the Information Technology industry so please understand that it is my passion and duty to adopt new things on a daily basis.

That being said, I will never ignore simple facts just because someone throws out fancy titles like Automated Manual Transaxles. Guess what the root of that phrase is....Auto. Is there any debate to that?

Automated Manual is a marketing term and makes about as much sense as Cautious Optimism, Current History, or Bright Darkness.

Just because you may know the inner workings of the transmission does not make someone who sits in your passenger seat and calls your MR an automatic while you do nothing to switch gears "ignorant". The words "automatic" and "manual" are "layman's" terms used to discern between the 2 types of vehicles on planet Earth: one's that shift for you, and one's that you have no other choice but to shift yourself.

Rock-on Bother. Couldn't agree with you more-- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never been in an evo x with this tranny so I don't know how it works, but my question is simple - can you get in the car, put the vehicle in drive and drive around never touching anything but the gas pedal? If the answer is yes, then it's an automatic. If it's like some bmw's that have a "manual mode" then it's still an automatic. Even a Chevy truck with an automatic can be shifted manually with the selector, does that now make it a hybrid transmission?

Looking at the referenced thread, one can easily discern based on responses that there will never be consensus on exact operation (auto, manual, whatever the ****-tronic) of the MR tranny. So now your logic compels you to create a thread that's intended to validate that the MR is an automatic.

Am I missing something here.

Yes, a GTR (assuming you mean R35), an M3 with the SMG or whatever the new "hybrid" transmission is called, all of them are automatics.

I swear to god, I desperately hope you do not have kids.
I saw a lot of people demeaning others for calling their MR's automatics. That bothers me. How can you look down on someone for calling something what it is? This is a discussion that I am hoping reaches those who may in fact try to make someone else feel stupid for no reason.

To answer your question, absolutely fking yes, you are missing something.

So now you're on a journey to enlighten or educate a certain % of people? When the first post in your thread ends with "LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!!" that is not indicative any attempting to educate anyone.

The question I'm posing is:

Why do a lot of SST owners refuse to consent the fact that they drive an "automatic"?

Please chime in with any and all supporting info - articles, youtube videos, etc.

I'm EXTREMELY interested in what everyone has to say on this subject.

It's called foreshadowing - being as the discussion had already gotten "heated" in another thread and I, being pro conversational, decided I would like to continue the debate while at the same time hopefully enlightening those who may be on the other side of this fence before they went on bashing others under false pretenses.

There are endless discussion threads on this site and you picked the one that you have zero input on the actual thread subject matter to make a comment in. You, sir, are the troll.

Agreed. So is an evo x the same way? I've never been in one so I can't comment. But unless you are required to actively shift gears as you drive, then it's an automatic, plain and simple. I guess people that own them feel like they have less of a sports car because it's an automatic?

I sell these cars for a living. Insurance companies and motor vehicles register MRs as automatics!
