Evo IX - too much to handle!

Hey guys, I just bought a 2006 Evo IX SE which I love, it has the look and the feel I like: I was never a fan of the SSL package so when I found this one I bought it!

It is although modified and I would like to take it back to stock. Right now it makes around 355whp, which is very "fun" as daily but to me it's just too much for what I want. I would like to remove the cams, injectors, intake, the o2 dump (freaking loud) and the exhaust. I know I could boost the car down and obtain the same effect, but the mix of rough idle, incredibly low MPG and loudness are bringing me to the idea of removing the aftermarket parts.

I need a couple of info on how to perform these things.

How hard is it to remove the cams? I know I would need a tune right after, but can I do it myself? What would a shop (non mitsu) charge?
What do I need to replace the o2 dump? what's the name of the part needed??Newbie here...
How long does it take to change the intake to back to stock?
What is the cost of an average tune?

To answer your question on why did I buy the car if I didn't like the mods, well it was just impossible to find a non evo modded ATM and I needed a car...I feel in love with the look of this one and it was very well maintained.

Eventually I would like to "invest" what I can make of the parts in a nice set of coilovers.

Thanks for any input you may have

I also appreciate any input saying Keep It Like This, you will regret it!

Cheers
A.

Something doesnt sound correct that your getting low mpg??
Sounds like you need a tune. Why dont you get tuned first?

On the highway I got 150miles out of half a tank, barely going beyond 40% of the gas and keeping it steady at 70mph...is this normal?

Car was tuned by Evo-Dynamics

So safe to assume your getting 300mpg out of a full tank? Seems about right.

I usually get 220-250 per tank 70-75% local driving and I only have an exhaust/tune/intake

Mods aren't going to decrease the mpgs.. That's just how an Evo is. It's AWD and turbo'd.

The only thing that I would suggest is to buy a stock exhaust and swap the downpipe to a non-dump. Maybe change the injectors and get a retune. It shouldn't idle too rough..

I was just gonna say the same exact thing. get a tune first then see where you're at. The only thing that won't be fixable that you mentioned is the loudness of the 02 dump. but the rough idle can be fixed with proper tuning. on that note your cams sound a little big considering you're on the stock turbo with few mods. But that's just my opinion. in regards to the Intake and the exhaust they're really easy to put on/take off. It should only take a matter of a couple hours for both. But honesty I would just leave them on. Though they make more power and torque by making the engine breathe better, they will also help increase gas mileage. in regards to the 02 dump either sell it or trade it for a recirculated one. I recommend the Titek 02 housing, I have it on my car and I love it. And just leave the injectors, once you get a tune they'll work more efficiently. hope this helps. Good luck

thats consider good gas mileage for an evo. anything above 20 is good. If you dont like the lope of the cams you can get it tuned and ask them to get rid of the lope and they will. To get rid of the o2 dump you will need to replace the o2 housing with a stock one, or an aftermarket one which has the wastegate recirced back into the exhaust. If you are still not happy after doing those things and would like less power its as simple as turning the boost down.

And if you are asking on what tools to replace a downpipe, I would seriously suggest just letting a shop swap the cams for you.. Just saying.

The downpipe has 4 bolts.. If I remember right. It's been a while. Catback should have two bolts and rubber hangers.

I don't know how far Plano is from you, but Cobb is there. They do a very good job. One of the most respectable shops/tuners.

If no parts were added after the EvoD tune you should be doing well in that department. These cars dont get awesome gas mileage, the EPA estimate is 16/23. To get rid of the O2 dump you'll need to purchase a recirculated O2 housing. The mods will grow on you and after driving it with 350 whp you'll probably regret making it slower. How much experience do you have wrenching on cars?

IX's have a 14 gallon tank, I believe, so 150 miles out of 6-7 gallons is right around 22-25mpg which is about in line with the factory spec'd fuel economy.

Real world use obviously varies from that some and there's a few threads around with people getting near 30mpg. That said, for an Evo I'd say you're around what I'd expect.

Thank you guys for all your inputs.

I have some experience wrenching on cars as I installed coilovers, removed throttle bodies and messed around with the exhaust/airbox sections. I have the OEM exhaust coming in in the next 2 days, I'll start from there.

I did some minor research and I agree with who's saying that the cams I have now are oversized for the stock turbo. I am still pretty much convinced about swapping them as well as the injectors.

Tomorrow I am going to visit these guys http://www.inline-racing.com/ and see what they think. They already told me that they do not want to put back the stock parts, for them is going backwards! WTF!?

Oh BTW, does owning an Evo get you directly in AAA road assistance program?

WTF is wrong with you all that remove the spare tire, jack, trunk mat and board!?!? Are y'all members and get free roadside assistance?

I am looking for those parts, if you happen to have them laying around in the garage let me know!
