evo 8 400whp dd goal.

Hey guys, decided to join a forum for a little help. I know this is probably not the first one of these threads you have seen but i can't find a good answer anywhere. I decided with a evo for my next car. I have driven my friends stock evo 8 ssl many times and its pretty fun but it is stock. I am gonna pick up mine soon and want to get started off with some mods. I really want to make like 400-450whp but for a dd and needs to be able to be used. I don't want a car that a have to baby so it don't break. I hate to say this but it is gonna be launched. ITS JUST TOO FUN.

I Just want to make 400-450whp on pump gas and be a safe reliable dd. I am a complete newbie and i was thinking off the start like a stage 3 clutch? ams internals?injectors, intake, turbo. Should i go on about buying maybe a ams engine rebuild and turbo kit? Just need to know mods to get me their. I will most likely go bigger later like to 650+

Can't wait for responses. Thanks guys!

For 400whp you shouldn't need to touch the block. Look into an FP green or red turbo. Other supporting mods would be a clutch, head studs, fuel system, exhaust, intake, intercooler, bov. Cams would also be something I'd look into. Also look into ECUflash and EVOscan for tuning. 400whp is a fairly easy goal for these cars, but perfect for a daily imo.

Check out the dyno threads to see what others are running to reach 400whp.

Wont need to touch internals at all. With an evo 9 turbo or an fp green with cams fuelingnand bolt ons 400 will be easy.

Adding to others, Rather than pushing the fp green near its limits on pump, unless you plan to go e85, just go with an fp red, and also head studs would be smart so you dont lift the head off the block.

Thanks for the help man. I have never owned a evo before so i didnt know where to start. This is a pretty good setup for reliability right? I will launch the car sometimes and stuff. Kinda hard to stay away from with friends aha.

Stock internals are proven to run 400hp/400tq all day long. That is about the "safe" limit though, especially with torque, once you go above 400 your flirting with disaster.

If you are going to launch the car with 400HP often, expect to break drivetrain parts, it will happen.

If you care about how fast the turbo spools, stick with the FP Red. If you don't care about fast spool, you could go with a 35R turbo or something similar and have some more high end HP but it wont full spool until later in the RPM's. Look at some dyno charts on here and notice the powerbands of different turbos.

Realiability will be determined in the tune. If you get a good tune that's safe, it should last for ever with those numbers. 400 isn't too crazy, stock block should be able to take it like nothing.

So but say 400whp daily driven. Should i consider internals then? also what clutch kit and such for this power. Also when should i worry about my transfer case and trany? so much gets stacked on aha. i am gonna go slow with upgrades over the years just one after another until it becomes fully built hah.

If your gonna keep the tq at 400, you shouldnt have to worry about internals, assuming you have a healthy motor and proper maintenance. Like others said, it's all in the tune. Go in the evo 8/9 evo dyno tuning and results section, click on the " search this forum " tab , and type in "stock block". Prepare to be amazed at what these cars can do. You'll see anything from stock block/turbo in the 400's to stock block with Fp blacks in the 600's.
