Question First mods

I have had my evo for about a week and I just can't wait any longer to start modding. My question is what do you think would be better
1) Intake and a boost gauge
or
2) Intake and a short throw
keep in mind I am trying to spend in the area of $500 for now
any other ideas would be great

get a boost gauge, and a 3in catback (whichever you like best), intake is not needed unless you get a turbo upgrade

Boost gauge....K&N drop-in SAFC(or re-flash) to lean things out (If you go through Buschur you get settings for the SAFC and save all the tuning time). Intake and just about anything that increases airflow throws off the MAS (= to rich) and you can slow down..so the SAFC (or re-flash) is the foundation untill you make the standalone jump

go with a turbo back or some kind of exhaust that won't be as restrictive.

Why does the MAS get thrown off when you add the K&N filter? Does it over compensate for the increased air flow? Running a LITTLE rich wont hurt. It will actually help keep detonation down (cooling effect).

The K&N DROPIN does not alter MAF readings. Aftermarket open air element filters do; they lean out the powerband in certain spots.

Buy an intake and 3" exhaust. That will let the turbo spool better wich will put out a lot of power overall.

Intake and Full Exhaust is the First way to go. Then after that boost guage Apex AfcII with a boost controller. Trust me you cant go wrong!
