Yup! Get a low mileage clean condition e92 if you can find one. It's a great all around car.

Gosh, no.

Can't even imagine how scary an evo would be with 10-12k of upgrades that would bring the cost up to that of a vw.

I can make a civic as fast around a track as my Evo, for probably less money. But it's still a civic.

The VW has build quality you can't buy for an Evo.

So, again, it all depends on what you want from your car.

i've owned and driven quite a few VWs and never had any issues that any other car wouldn't have. and yes: the interiors are very nice. IMO, better than the Evo.

What was it a MKIV or something? Build quality has gotten substantially better over the years. I got rid of my GTI for the Evo for performance reasons only. The GTI was a great car and I found it to be superior to the Evo in many ways. I never once said to myself "I can't believe I paid 25k for this car." I find myself questioning my Evo purchase a lot and then I go around a corner at high speed and remember why I bought it.

I don't think even this high end Golf model is meant to compete with pure performance cars like the Evo. VW does cars that can perform but are also suited as comfortable daily drivers.

WTF is that yellow and black thing? Is that what people think "the thing under the hood" should look?

As a designer, I would rather see an engine there, no matter how many hoses and wires. Plastic engine covers make me really angry, properly engineered and designed mechanicals are beautiful and really show the aesthetic and engineering rigor of the manufacturer.

you have to understand that "most" people aren't like us and appreciate the mechanicals. also take into consideration the target market for the VW. "most" people like to see something that isn't so intimidating. an oil cap, radiator cap... that's about all they care about.

I think it's a great car but I don't think it's as mod friendly as an Evo.
