They don't handle as well, that is the point. Not to mention they aren't as reliable and are significantly more expensive to repair. It also isn't hard to get an a3 or 135i north of 40k. The 135i doesn't even come with AWD and you can't get an A3 with a manual. It isn't much of a cross-shop at all in my opinion.

Unless something has changed, last I heard, the fun of driving a Golf R is completely neutered by all of the stability controls which can't be turned off even with tuning.

That was found early last year. Yes you can turn it fully off with just a simple VAG-COM tweak. No reflash even needed. First thing I did on my 2013 R. Easy.

O OK. Thanks for the correction. So how do you like it compared to the Evo?

I really enjoyed the car. It was comfy, great interior, everything well designed. Handling was great for what it was. Hwy driving was smooooth. Rode amazing. Responds well to mods. Nice iron block forged 2.0L (like evo). With just a self tune, intake and HPFP I was making +50hp/+40tq.

However, it's no Evo (what is) but for what I bought it for, it was perfect. I ended up selling it to reduce financial overhead and picked up a 2014 Evo GSR.

i have a IX. no way am i concerned about interior quality

Yea honestly I really miss the car. I regret selling it but I'm trying to be a bit more financially responsible as I approach my 40's.
