Looking at joining the Evo Community

Not sure if I'm asking in the right place, if I'm not feel free to move or delete this.

I'm looking at getting a moderately modified 2010 MR, and I wanted to see if there's anything I need to look out for.

From what I've gathered so far was that the work was done by a shop in Dallas that seems pretty reputable. But never the less I want to make sure I don't miss anything staring me in the face.

It's had an engine replaced at 79kmi, which made me a bit weary, so I'm getting a hold of the shop that's done all the work including that.

If it means anything, or anyone cares, a mod list of what I've been told.

FP MHI Turbo
AMS Intercooler, Test Pipe, Down Pipe, Widemouth Pipe, Air Intake, Single Tip Turbo Back
ID 1000cc Injectors
AM Fuel Pump
HPI Blow Off

I'd like to thank y'all for letting me throw this into the wash and for giving me a resource to poke around for some info.

You should test drive it, obviously.
SST Transmission needs to be checked out, can be damaged from what I read.
From my experience w/ a new 14 MR, it's a blast! I'm using it as DD... all stock for now. GL

Well, driving it's the plan, but I was going to try and put my ear against it and see if it will tell me it's secrets before buying it

But yeah, it's pretty high miles for that tranny, so obviously i'll get it thoroughly check out by a mech and myself before I'm at the cash changing hands stage.

Take the car to a good tuner in Texas to do a thorough inspection. Maybe COBB in Plano, Texas.

FP MHI Turbo
- There are a lot of posts on this turbo. Rumors was going to offer it as a dealer upgrade etc. Most topics I have seen talk about it being able to get up to 450HP. That is getting very close to the limit of a stock MR. The MR limit however is more concerned with how much Torque you make and force down the SSTs throat without modding the transmission. The SST is strong and reliable but unmodified 450HP would be along the top edge of my comfort zone with it.

AMS Intercooler, Test Pipe, Down Pipe, Widemouth Pipe, Air Intake, Single Tip Turbo Back
-Hmm more flow, more power, still in line with getting the most from a turbo upgrade.....

ID 1000cc Injectors
AM Fuel Pump
- I smell corn! My guess is this thing was built to run E85 and push that turbo, engine block and SST to their limits without internal upgrades (unless they forgot to mention those to you)

They provide any Dyno Graphs or tuning reports? Private sale or sitting at a dealer lot?

I would say be wary, this thing is not what I would call lightly modified (that is based on my comfort level and future plans ) and an engine failure speaks to some possible bad tuning and/or driving behavior. My knowledge is however based on mostly what I have read, not on having done it myself, so keep that in mind.

Since you are in Houston with me I would like to point you towards Kozmic Motorsports. Top of the line Evo X Shop.

Hope you can join the X Family soon and have a good experience with it!

Well I've been told that there's a cooler in place for the trans now. For reference when the engine was replaced, it was at 80kmi, so it's been in there roughly 10kmi. All the mods and engine work were done by Jotech, and from what I was reading it looks like a stage 3. I'm also a bit iffy, because I want to understand what I have not just drive it and cry when it breaks because I don't know what went wrong, lol.

Thanks for the info, I welcome more!

After talking to Jotech I feel a bit better, apparently something happened to the previous engine and they got a new shortblock in there. I've read mixed reviews about Jotech, but they seem pretty good from what I see. I asked the owner if he'd run it by EvoD and he's a bit weary of them apparently, should I be?

Jotech a good idea? I haven't talked to cobb yet, but they're right in the area.

Don't know too much about Jotech. I only know COBB because they're mainstream lol
