New intercooler, bad idea?

I recently decided to change the hard pipe kit it my car due to the connecting bits looking a bit worn out. I said I'd pick up a intercooler ( only 200 quid ) seeng as the one that was in it is 13 years old and something new wouldn't hurt so I thought... It's massive in size, I'd guess nearly twice the size In width.

I'm noticing the car feel significantly slower with it in. I'm getting the car mapped after I'm 3'' exhaust put in on Monday .

Is this a case of just needing a map to get the most out of it seeing how it's bigger? Or should I just put back in the stock one which I kept just in case something like this could happen.

If your down on power after changing intercooler / piping I'd suggest checking for boost leaks.

Is your Evo otherwise mostly stock? A big FMIC tends to make the car feel laggier.

ya check for boost leaks..also bigger will lag more sence it will take longer for boost to fill and pressurize it.like ^ they said...also depends on efficiency of new one.

If it's significant power difference, prob a boost leak.

Question about the lag.
Will a short route upper pipe offset the effect of the bigger cooler?
So OP, what pipes did you get?

As everyone else has stated. Do a boost leak test.

1. Check every coupler for leaks.
2. Check your throttle body around the shaft.
3. Check the injector seals.
4. Most importantly, spray down the intercooler to make sure that isn't leaking.

Easiest way is to pressurize the system is through the compressor housing and spray soapy water on all the above. if you see bubbles that's an indication of a leak.

That 3" exhaust should help with some spool up, but make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks either. Potential leaks happen around the catallic converter or the flex, even at the O2 to downpipe flange. V-band all things is what I did

Here's a boost leak tester. you can google how to make one also.
