New Evo IX Owner

Hello all!

I am the proud (relatively) new owner of a WW Evo IX. I purchased the car from the friend since it needed some love and am looking for some guidance from the intelligent community here at EvoM!

A quick rundown on the car.

I purchased this from a friend who moved and couldn't take the car with. He was aware of some mods but not everything. 2006 Evo IX, 167xxx on the clock. Was smoking and showed low compression so was in need of a HG. I took the block apart, honed it and re-ringed the pistons. New bearings around. In taking off the head for the HG I noticed the car had cams, Kelford 272s. Had the head taken in and cleaned up, shaved to level and a valve job done for good measure. All gaskets replaced and am working on getting the last few things set up so she will live again.

I want this to be a weekend car. Nothing crazy, just the occasional spirited driving with all the associated fun sounds. I don't know what is reasonable as far as power goals goes with what I have so far, so I'll say 400awhp until directed otherwise.

Mod List:

ETS Intake
ETS UICP
ETS LICP
Megan DP
STM 3" turbo-back exhaust
Kelford 272/272 Cams
Tuned, not sure by who, running high 20's PSI (28 I think)
Stock turbo.

Looking for guidance as far as a turbo upgrade. This one is likely on its way out and if it isn't, who doesn't want a little more go?

I will be replacing the existing wideband with an AEM, replacing the stock 3-port with the Grimmspeed 3 bar EBCS. I will likely get a COP kit, mostly because I like them. I do not know if the fuel pump is stock or upgraded so will go with a Walbro 255lph if I need to. With all of that out of the way that leaves me with:

Turbo
Injectors
FMIC

I will be getting retuned, of course. As far as fueling goes I do not have access to E85 so this will be pump fuel only. In my area we have 91 as premium pretty much everywhere. No 93. For injectors I am leaning toward ID1050x. It seems those would be capable for my goals on pump. The turbo sounds like I am inbetween an FP red/green. Would the 71HTA CHRA be adequate?

Thank you for the insight!

Hi!

Welcome to your new forum! Thank you for the great introduction and since WW is my favorite color please post a photo or two of your car.

A great place to start on Evom is reviewing the 'stickies' at the top of the Evo 8/9 General forums.

Have fun!

Alright, Welcome aboard the boards

Great to have ya. Yeah, many of us, including myself, run the 71HTA CHRA. Most of us are on E85 but its a great turbo

Hey, post up a pic or two?

Joe

Didn’t even think about photos. Here are a couple! I would run e85 but I don’t think there are any pumps out here...

It’s a pretty solid base. Has a munch of look fast parts too. JDM rear bumper, JDM evo7 taillights, vortex generator. It’s on BC coilovers. Not my first choice but not AWFUL.

it needs work, as does every project but I can drive it without needed to spend 10k to make it tolerable.
