Help me decide
Help me decide
Hello ppl,
I am new to this forum & just looking for some input on the Lancer EVO... I currently drive a 04 Matrix XRS & thinking of selling it for the Evo. I like the Matrix but drove the Evo & got hooked. Any general problems i keep a heads up about? Is it expensive to maintain? Any help would work just undecided right now.

if you don't throw the stick too hard when changing gears you shouldn't worry about the synchros ... the clutch is a bit weak from the factory but if you don't launch/slip it from 5000rpms it should last a long time
...and more goodies are on the way
You might want to take a look at what will be coming on the '05 models (more power, ACD, etc). I think everybody here would agree that they are worth the wait if you have enought flexibility to hold off 8-14 months.
Are you buying new or used?
Also take the time to drive an sti or maybe even a regular wrx. The Evo is one sweet piece of machinery, but it certainly isn't for everybody. I can imagine that the evo feels like a beast after that matrix (I traded a 115 bhp vw golf for mine).
Also take note that the evo is a high maintanence car. Besides the clutch/synchro wear that gets dicussed over and over, theres the expensive (synthetic) oil changes. The stock tires are only good from 8-20k miles. If it snows where you live, you _must_ get winter tires. But as you live in LA, no problem. The car needs to warm up before being driven and cool down when you're done.
Insurance will probably be sky high. Check around though. I have state farm and insurance went DOWN when I traded that puny 2 door golf for the evo. I don't know what they were smoking, but I didn't ask anymore questions.
good luck!
