Still The Same?

Since the Evo8 has the 4G63, the same motor that was in Eclipse GSX's and Talon TSi's. Since DSM's are not known for "reliability" due to the fact that they get beat on and flaws in the engineering of the engine. So, do the 4G63's in the Evo's still have the same flaws as before or were these corrected?

All help is appreciated.

If there was a REAL flaw...like the crank walk in the old 2gs...it would be designed out. Every time they make a "new" car that has a 4g63...most of the time they redo somethings on the engine. Also when there were real problems with them....they issued recalls to fix the problems.

Sounds good to me. Because, I'm heavily considering getting an Evo8. I didn't find out until later that they have the 4G63. When I did, I had to ask ya'll if the flaws still existed on this current model or what.

Thanks a **** ****ing load Dragon. Really..So that does mean that the overheating is gone too right? The turbo and the alternator are farther apart correct?

I have 17.5 k on my 03 evo, never had an overheating problem, and I live in Ft. Worth. you can fry eggs on the sidewalk in front of my house. The only issue that seems to be common in the evos is clutch burnout ... but there are a number of us that have not had that problem; we accepted the fact that stock clutch was not built for high RPM launch and just don't do it, avoid not depressing the clutch pedal fully, etc.

You can have my evo when Mitsu builds something significantly faster or you salvage it after I've crashed and burned.

Its a great car ...

I think the 4G63 is an amazing engine. Why do so many of them blow up? A lot of people cut their teeth on tuning with an old DSM etc. . If you are pushing 200+whp/L a small mistake can very quickly result in a blow up motor.

You used the operative word ... mistake. When you are dealing with a 4 cylinder banging out 200+ whp (or more), the stresses can be incredible. If you don't plan what you are doing correctly and do it correctly, things go boom. I'm replacing my exhaust and installing my XEDE, a local tuner shop that has a great rep is gonna do my cam gears, a fuel pump and eventually a set of cams.

Ya gots to know what you are doing as well as your limitations ...
