I agree with you 100% That is why I got the GS-R. For $4500 you are buying:

Aluminum Roof
Bilstein Shocks
BBS Rims
6 Speed which is not even made by Mitsubishi
Available Grey Paint

They all have the same engine, turbo, and increase in boost to 20.3 psi

If you get the Sunroof.. weight #s are actually very close since 6 speed is
heavier.

Let me break it down for you:

1500 - 6 Speed
1000 - Suspension
1000 - HIDs, Al roof, and BBS Rims
1000 - Having my ego stroked by the MR-less who hate on my MR.

I see what you are saying. One could just get or keep the present Evo, put 4500 into it and it will perform better than the MR. I believe that if you have an MR and the regular Evo, modify them, you will eventually get to a point where they will perform identically. With the MR costing a little less only becuse you are starting at a higher performance level. The only justification I can think of, for the 4500, is that you get an Evo that has already been upgraded and is under warranty. Good for people who don't like to add things themselves. You have to remember though, the bilsteins alone cost 2000, and I am sure the 6 speed costs around 2000 also. Don't forget the ACD also.
Then again, the MR isn't much quicker than the regular Evo, and I am referring to the 2003 model. 0-60 in 4.5 and 13.0 quarter is plenty quick.

I don't know about you, but my Evo already came with HID's.

if I'm not mistaken. it's an option for 05's. The only reason I would have a MR. is for the sake of saying. I have a MR and it's more rare then the GSR's. and if you don't plan on modding it. that would be justifyable. Otherwise I would just stick with a gsr or rs model if you plan on modding. I kinda wish I would have waited for the 05. Is it true that they all have the acd on the 05's. I could careless about the aluminum roof. first time you get a dent in it your screwed. aluminum doesn't have the memory that steel does. it's a PITA to get dent's out of aluminum. My sister's B/F is a dent wizard guy. He's been doing it for about 8 year, and he said he quivers when he see's a car with an aluminum panel. just my .02

If you get one of those MR badges and put in on you '04 EVO VIII, it adds 50 whp and makes it handle better.

Let them keep the mr. 2005 gsr on the way. Plus almost 7 gs I saved to put into better rims, suspension, exhaust and ecu. I can't wait to pull up to an mr. The alluminum roof and six gear ain't going to help a stock mr. Plus the mr is about 20 pounds over the gsr.

Oh, just to get something straight, I love the MR. If I didn't have an Evo and was still on the hunt for a new car, I would buy the MR.

All 2005 Evolutions - RS, GS-R, MR come with standard:
Active Center Differential ACD
Upgraded Wastegate
276 H.P. 286 Torque

From there the RS and MR are the same car for the most part.
RS is stripped but gets the aluminum roof
GS-R has one option; Sun, Sound, Leather
MR is a RS with GS-R stuff, HID, 6 Speed, Bilsteins, BBS Rims

The ideal car would be a RS with Urban Jungle Package. Mitsubishi is not Burger King, you cannot have it your way.

Not quite............the only thing on that list you can get with the GSR is HID, so I would not call it "GSR-stuff".

The difference is actually a good bit more than $4500 in real dollars. You can go negotiate pretty easily on a regular "gsr" Evo.... most dealers are trying to get sticker for the MR.

so you talk them down $2k on the GSR and the difference is $6500.00.

I pesonally am waiting it out.... i would buy an MR if i could get one for $30k.

I would like a 6 speed, but not for that big of a difference. The MR supposedly weighs about the same as the GSR due to the added weight of the front LSD and 6 speed....dispite having the lighter roof, wheels and maybe suspension.

MR edition is a great package....just not worth $35,500 to me.....but i was dumb enough to pay MSRP for the regular evo 18 months ago.

I understand that the MR 6-speed has the same ratios in 1st and 2nd gear so that the car can a keep low 0 - 60 mph time (without shifting into 3rd), and that 6th gear in the MR is the same as 5th gear an all other EVOs. They just scrunched down 3rd, 4th and 5th gears to cover the same ground that 3rd and 4th cover in other EVOs.

I like how some try to justify extra money for another gear when final ratio is similar to the GSR. So what they are really saying is they are paying $2500 for the 5-speed (which is in the base price) plus another $2000 more for the six speed? Sure that sounds resonable, a $4500 transmission.

But then again, lable me a hater because in the end we will all have Evo's that most of us won't even race in (minus the occasional drag or street race) but those of us with GSR's will feel better knowing that extra $4500+ went to better non-factory mods that feel comfortable to me, not some jerkwater Mitsu employee.

If you plan on staying stock, the MR is an awesome find. But warranties are for wussies. (btw...that was sarcasm)
