Thats exactly what Motortrend said in there article. I need to figure out how I can get behind the wheel of both of them.

IF you haven't read the article in MotorTrend check it out http://motortrend.com/roadtests/seda...wrx/index.html

just sitting in the two made the difference for me. the STI is made for bigger people. i am thin, and the evo seats fit very well for me, whereas the STI seats were like my parents grand marquis, which is to say, comfortable but no side bolsters (oh and minus the leather) i really liked the layout of the 05 STI more then the 04 EVO but when i test drove the two, they were very simliar. the STI had much more low end torque, and had a meatier sound to it. but my dealer was asking 35 for the STI and i got the evo for 29. the big difference is price is because the subi dealer only had colors i didn't want (blue), and they all had the 800 dollar ****ty gauge package and 600 dollar short sift kit. i would not pay that much for either option and he said it would be a long wait for an 05 with the features and color i wanted. then 1/2 mile down the road was the evo in the color with the features i wanted, for 6k less. i was sold almost instantly after sitting in it and test driving it.

Like you can see in my first post I am pretty much dealing with the opposite situation. The STI is 5k less then the MR.

First of all, like others are saying - you need to drive both and decide for yourself which one YOU prefer.
I owned the 2005 STI and sold it for the MR. I didn't have the opportunity to drive the MR before I bought it, but I did drive the GSR and really liked the car better than the STI. I am very happy with the MR so far and think that it performs better than the STI in more ways than one. The handling is incredible, and the performance is great. Personally, I prefer the feeling of boost, and with the STI I didn't really feel the boost as much as with the EVO. The STI's pull was very constant and "even" whereas the EVO has a bit of turbo lag, and then takes off like a rocket. This is just my opinion, and I'm sure that some will argue this.

On paper, the STI is clearly the winner over the MR. Bigger engine, more horsepower and lower price.
But in reality, the 05 EVO (GSR) performs as well if not better, and is less expensive than the STI.

So The question: is the MR $5000 better than the STI? I think so.

Well at the point I am right now I can get a 05 sti cheaper then an 05 EVO GSR. Mitsubishi is crazy and they think they can sell all the EVOS at MSRP. I'm going to make an offer on a MR this weekend. I have found a dealer that will go 200 under MSRP for the EVO MR. So I will see how hungry they are. Probably not as hungry as I need them to be but an offer is an offer. I know the market for cars in general right now is down. So I am hoping that works to my advantage. The clock is ticking I expect to purchase a car on November 30.

By the way your opinion is definately very valuable to me cuz you have owned both cars. Thank you for posting.

i work at a mitsu store in Virginia and a big problem we are having is that we just aren't getting any. My dealership is getting 1 MR total and thats it for the entire production run. We only see 5-6 Evo's a year. We also have an 8 person deep list waiting on ours in case
someone can't come through. A great dealer that i have dealt with in the past is Darcars in silver spring. There is a manager there who has been really helpful to me when i needed a car for a customer(dealer traded an evo fo an rs eclipse because it helped us out). Their sales people are knowledgable from my experience and they deal in a higher volume than most so i would consider giving them a call and this is advice coming from someone who would like to sell you a car himself so its high praise . If you want to see if they are up to making you a deal you can call them at 301-343-7611 and tell them that Brandon at Colonial Auto Center in Charlottesville referred you there.

Darcars is the highest volume dealer in the metropolitan area. I have been dealing with the head manager Ramen (I think thats his name) for over a month. As far as knowledge is concerned they actually do know quite a bit. I have done a huge amount of reaserch on the car so I know it inside out from a technical point of view. However they want 4995 over the sticker for the MR. So the out the door price is around 43 for an MR at Darcars. Im sure I could work it down to sticker possibly. They sell allot of EVO's so I don't know how willing they are to deal. Though I have to give it to Darcars for calling me every saturday and atleast showing interest in my business. I have been to over 10 dealerships and I have only recieved call backs from two. Last time I bought a car I couldn't get the dealers off the phone. I guess Mitsubishi dealers are not as hungry to sell the EVO.

1) I think you can get a lower price for the MR (lower than the $36k+ they wanted).

2) The MR is much more rare. To some that doesn't mean anything, but to a lot of people that's highly respected, and it retains value better when it's rare.

The Price I quoted was MSRP with tax tag and frieght and thats what I was offered. So almost 37 out the door.

I do like the rare quality of the MR its definately a huge plus.

Funny, the Sti has 300 hp and the 05 evo's 276, but on the dyno the evo consistently registers more power. Choose whichever car you prefer.
