MIVEC and cams?

This may be a little premature considering I don't even have the car yet. But I was wondering what kind of an influence MIVEC will have on aftermarket cams? Anybody know if the cams would be the same as the 8 or would the companies have to come up with a new design? Also does anybody know if the extra sensors in the exhaust manifold will be a concern when switching to an aftermarket manifold? Any input is appreciated.

i dont see why everybody is so worried about mivec..it's not a new technology, it's just new to the EVO because mitsubishi is like 15 years behind everybody else. and yes companies will more than likely have to design new cams for the car. but it's not like it's that big of a deal. mivec will make the car better than it was before. it's not something to be scared of, it's something you should be saying "bout damn time mitsu caught up." it's not like aftermarket companies will be dumbfounded and stumped by this new fangled mystery that is "MIVEC" lol variable valve timing has been around for years. they'll be able to make better products for the car now than ever before

toyota TOOK their VVTi off their altezza when adding a turbo into it. I really dont see why MIVEC is needed for a turbo car. More ****, more problems.

depends on the car. variable valve timing normally works very well with turbo's and centrifugal superchargers because just as the boost is kicking in, so does the vtec, or vvti so they run well together. variable valve timing is an improvement on ANY engine, turbo or not. you guys should go read up on what it is, what it does, and how it works and stop being afraid of what you don't understand

The only question is whether the existing cams will work with the MIVEC actuator or not. Think of it like having a variable timing gear on the intake cam that continuosly tunes the car for optimum power/torque. This means if you are going to buy variable timing gears, you'll only need one now for the exhaust cam. Whether that'll be needed will obviouly depend whether you will change your exhaust setting. The price of tuning has just dropped

I wonder how big of a difference and difficulty to convert an 03-05 to the MIVEC head. Will be interesting to see what the actual benefits are with the way Mitsu does variable timing.....

I will be interested to see the dyno chart (same dyno) overlay between both cars stock and then with upgraded CAMs.

Coming from the world of turbo and NA Honda/Acura engines I am very interested in how MIVEC opens things up...

I have heard Mivec doesn't work in the same way vtec. Does that is why the haven't made a controller for it yet.

FYI, MIVEC technology has been around since the early-mid 90s in Mitsu's Japanese Domestic Vehicles, for example the FTOs.

As for what cam(s) you want to use when IX is release in U.S? Since the MIVEC is only setup on the intake side, you will only need to change the exhaust cam to extract more power. This is what I can gather from reading various EVO tuning articles in Japanese Tuning Mags - Latest Hyper Rev and Lancer EVO mags.

Hope this helps!
