With the STi being 50lbs light and six pod brakes I may switch sides for the first time. But damn so ugly. My guess is that the evo probably weighs 3450+lbs which i'd rather get a 410hp M3 at that weight.

Now i'm interested in the S2000CR (last year b4 the soft successor) or new STi hatch.

The STI looks like a focus, they should build a non hatch seriously!

You gotta remember that the article is just full of speculation, they know about the new Evo and STi as you or me, they just take educated/researched guesses which I think they are doing a pretty bad-*** job as their numbers just don't add up to their predicted performance. Anyway, I don't think the new Evo X even with DSG tranny will weight 3500 pounds.

The new 2008 Lancer GTS with all the bells and whistles weights at about 3100. I am more than sure that the Evo will come with more aluminum components to reduce it's weight, I don't know how much does the CVT tranny weights in the GTS but I am assuming that the DSG tranny won't be that much heavier, and then there is the AWD system, we don't know what is it made of but let's say it weights 200 pounds (for example the weight difference between BMW 328i which is 3340 pounds and 328xi which is 3582 pounds gives a bit over 200 pounds for the AWD system), I think Evo X will weight at 3300-3350 pounds max.

Also during the Detroit Auto Show when Dan Sims presented the Prototype X he mentioned that the Evo X will see a significant power increase but also he mentioned that the power increase alone won't do the car any justice without a better system to actually transfer all that power to wheels, so we will see what Mitsu has in store, they generated a lot of noise about this car for the past 2 years, for a company that wants to crawl back from mediocrity they can't afford for the Evo X to be a disapointment as this is supposed to be their halo top of the line vehcle. Sometimes weight can work towards an advantage, you don't want to put a powerful motor inside a very light car unless you have some kind of system designed to tame all the HP and make the car actually controllable.

I think the subaru would look a lot better if it wasn't a hatchback. Hatchbacks are just nasty...

I disagree. There are lots of nice hatchbacks RX7, Vette, Supra, Old eclipse, 300ZX and many more. It's the 4 door hatches that are gay. Maybe i'm old school but it looks like people who can't afford a trunk

And I disagree with you, yeah there have been a lot of hatchbacks and very few have been successful, you do realize that the RX7, Supra, and 300ZX were nice, but never really ever sold many and I seriously wouldn't consider a Corvette a hatch not in the traditional since. Sorry if Subaru is serious about a hatchback only model, sorry not even a hatchback it's a f*cken wagon, it's a f*cken death sentence. All you peeps are like oh looks nice and that, nobody gonna buy a $35,000+ Subaru Wagon that looks like it should be driven by high school teenagers, sorry. A $35,000 Ford Focus, LOL. This thread disgusts me, people are saying the STI looks so good and it looks like a freakin Ford Focus, no it looks like an ugly Ford Focus, because the Ford Focus RS looks a hell of a lot better than that wagon sh*t. hey if some of you ujump ship, go right ahead I'll pack your bags for you and when you drive by I'll just point and laugh at you and your $35,000 ugly Ford Focus wagon.

subaru is just looking for alternatives to beat the evo, first upgraded the engine to 2.5 and now took off the rear(became a hatchback) for less weight. I bet it is going to be faster no matter how ugly it looks like.

Wouldn't they be adding weight by making it a hatchback?
