Eveybody hated the VII when they came out.. It was all about the VI TME.. But then the 7 spanked the 6, and it was like, oooohhhh thats a wicked car.. I want one now..

In terms of looks I like the X much better than the current evo Inside and out. We'll have to see about performance and tunability when it actually does come out.

by the way, i have IX and luv it, but also think the X looks hot. its unproven but i hope mitsubishi keeps the purity of evo and its alllll good.
+1.

I think a lot of VIII and IX owners have a lot of hostility towards the X. Maybe deep down inside, they fear that it will be a better car.

Either way, All Evos are badass cars. Personally, as much as I love them, I could never get into the looks of the pre-X evos. I'm just happy that the X that's coming out is styled so that it will catch the eye of the masses (rather than JUST the hardcore enthusiasts), which I think will result in them being much more popular than the pre-X evos.

Just my .02.

i think the huge complaint is the engine. well for me it is. why change? i could understand if your were going to a 2.5l but staying at 2.0. you can say well the engine is lighter. well the car is heavier to begin with.

will have to wait and see with the engine and mods. but for one i hate the body style.

Because for some reason people keep wanting better and better cars with more power and more effeciency and the government wants cleaner cars that are more effecient. Oh yeah and consumers dont want to pay any more for it.

Perhaps its because the 2.0 is the engine the car must compete with in its class and Mitsubishi chose to engineer one good engine with their limited budget rather then try to do a 2.0L for the JDM and a 2.5L for the USDM people who think bigger is always better.

Hey, I'm all for making any given component lighter so long as you're not really sacrificing reliability.

Why change the engine? Well, it's the Evolution, after all. Do you really want Mitsu to be like GM and still sell pushrod engines (or in this case, another 4g63) forever?

PS - Yeah, I really wish mitsu would have stepped up to at least a 2.5L.

How can I hate something that doesn't exist.
I want an evo NOW so I got the IX as it is the best out there to buy NOW.
If the X turned to be way way better then I can always get one or trade the IX.
If the X is not as good as expected then I still have my IX as I'm waiting for the XII.

I have a tb IX MR and am wishing I had held out a little longer for the X. I loved it from the very first Prototype X pics. I never could get used to the square styling of the 8 and 9 rear half. It looks so outdated, but the new X has more curves to it and has a square face to plow through the wind which I have loved since the R34 Skylines.
I say- Quit kidding yourselves haters. You'll all want one.
Now if only I could adjust to the new transmission offerings...Make mine a 6spd (but stronger than the current one).
And on a leaving note: at least we aren't getting a fugly hatchback with four doors... Hi STI !!!

I'm with you on the STi bit, but I'd be careful with saying that people are kidding themselves. Just because you love a particular car model doesn't mean you love every single release of it, nor should you have to.
