Road and Track test the Evo X
you still are not looking at this the correct way...
If you make a car ugly.. Atleast make it faster!
You guys are not the STIG from top gear and will not out perform the IX....
And the funniest part is, put some suspension on an VIII or IX and it will handle just as well and be faster yet again..
Its wheels look small, stupid looking WANNA BE wide fenders in the front, and the car looks like a pig. They advertise some bad *** concept for 2 years and wha laa they release a minivan...
Its shown already that the evos are built like school busses when it comes to aero dynamics and this wont help any making it even taller

For the same reason they are obsessed with NASCAR. It is so unpredictable! "Watch this bill!! They turned LEFT! Holy S***! They turned left again!!" So suspenseful. I would take 10 hours of SCCA racing during dry weather than 2 hours of NASCAR during a rainstorm. Wait don't those people cancel races for a little bit of rain? Lol.
there's no doubt it would and should be faster overall on a track, i don't think that's ever really been an issue. how could they spend so much time developing the car just to say 'sorry guys, it's a bit slower than the old one.' it's just the character of the car is different; it's a different machine now.
i'm glad the new car is faster around the track. and vigo, about your old geezer comments... i mean, i usually trust road and track when it comes to their abilities to drive so i dunno, they put down solid times for the evos of old haven't they?

Nascar summed up in two words: 4 left...
Why are Americans so obsessed with drag? Better yet why do the same people bash the SST and prefer manual. I can't think of anything more hypocritical, or dumb.
As nj1266 says, 1-2 seconds off a 1 minute track is an unbelievable accomplishment. Tuners spend thousands trying to shave even one tenth off. Mitsu spent 4 years and millions of R&D to shave those 2 seconds for us. I got nothing but gratitude for the engineers.

I think a lot of peoples concerns revolve around that amazing engineering. If a manufacturer is not careful, they can engineer all the direct driver interaction out of the car. There is no disputing that the X will be faster, but not one write up says it is more rewarding to drive. And for the purists who track there cars, that is cause for concern.
Of course, the track purists, while agreeing that the Evo VIII-IX are very fast on track,
loose something in the translation compared to a properly set-up rear drive car.
I traded in my 350Z after 2 years of abusing that car on local roadcourses for an '03 Evo VIII. And while the Evo was definitely faster around the track I didn't have quite as much fun. Why? Because the superior traction takes some of the driver involvement out of the equation. You can get the race line completely wrong and still come out with a decent lap time.
That's why I tell my driving students to learn the track in a rear drive car if possible and not in an Evo or STi. They'll be faster but they'll also learn poor driving habits.
I now own an '05 Evo and may or may not trade it in for a X. Not because I don't like the X. It's a hot ride. It's just that rear drive bug is calling me again, so I may need to test drive a twin turbo 135i before I decide. decisions...
^ I agree
Cars with high-tech awd systems like the Evo and Sti will allow even track newbies to post decent times because the electronics will do everything for them basically. Its almost like point and squirt.
This is even more true for the X with an even more refined awd system that can send power to all four wheels independently.
Enthusiasts will dislike it for taking any skill out of the equation and regular ppl will be coaxed by the bmw 335/135. The future of the X looks kinda gloom imo
