2011/2012 changes for the X?
its not comforting knowing that the 2011 Mustang GT is only slightly heavier than the evo sporting 412hp. Like c'mon reduce the weight and get back to the origin and the advantage of the evo. All these other car companies are finding ways to cut the fat on their cars while mitsu chooses not to get it. Cater to the proper target market and despite the economy the car with have a huge demand

for the layperson who wants to jump in a car and "go fast", the X is cool. and it's comfy enough that the average american will be happy in it (apparently we all need bigger, better, and more buttons/switches/etc).
i feel the same as you: the car is moving away from the type of people that really want to buy it. while it is now appealing to a different market, they are kinda alienating the rest of us. if the new market produces more sales than the old one did.. then i guess we're just stuck. Mitsu wants to make money, not keep a small group of us happy.
for those that want to learn to be a better driver in order to go fast, we still have the VIII and IXs to play with. thank god we have those.
i bought a IX and i don't think i will ever, ever, ever get rid of it. there's a guy i know that keeps trying to buy my car. nope. no way. forget it.
I used to think the same as you...until I spent extended seat-time in a X. I then promptly sold my IX and got one
The more you drive it, the more you realize it is still a real Evolution underneath the niceties.

for some that's a good thing. lots of people like the creature comforts, more interior room, and upgraded interior design of the X. i would prefer my interior to consist of a dash, a driver's seat, and a roll cage.

like i said: there are markets for both cars. i'm the IX market, you are the X. that just means we don't have to fight over buying the same car.

now, if i were buying an evo for fun, to DD, and just kinda live in and enjoy? i'm sure i'd prefer a X too. again, just my opinions based on how i view the two cars.
i do see some really fast Xs out on the race track, though.
I bought one in 08 tested it vs a stock IX, the IX did a little better around the circle track stock for stock. So I sold the X.
2 years later after tuning countless X's I now own one again and have not looked back at my IX since.
I guess you can say it grew on me with seat time
I really love both the X's and the older VIII's and IX's. My favorite is still the V. LOL. I love the big old fat fog lights and the body style. I would be hard up to pick a favorite, except that the older Evo's had the 4G63's which will always be my favorite motor. It's got endless possibilities and as far as strength and reliability, it's bulletproof. There just seems to be so many more options for the 4G63's then with the new 4B11, even though it's already been proven that the bolt ons for the newer motors are producing more wheel hp (for the most part) and tq. It's really early to be comparing the 4B11 to the 4G63, though, so I'm trying to be patient.
Some days I wish i had a X MR so I could just cruise without having to shift and work at it (my old man days). Most days, though, I'm thrilled about firing up my 8 MR and rockin through 6 gears to get to work (my kid days). I also like the new feel of the X MR's. There is so much room in them compared to mine and the new audio and buttons are a nice addition. I think that if I just get one of each, I'll be happy so that I can have my pick for whichever mood I'm in. Most likely, I'll continue to gravitate towards my 8, though.
I'm definitely interested in seeing what 2011 and beyond brings for the evo. I'd really like to see another face lift and some performance mods to compensate for the additional weight, but i guess time will tell. As far as I'm concerned, Mitsubishi has done a freakin swell job with all the evo's (new X's included) and i always love seeing what's coming from them. They've boldly evolved the car for a new generation and I think it's been pretty well received, IMO.
