2011/2012 changes for the X?

Sorry if this is a redo of a thread of a string of a post off another thread.. but i have really been holding off on the Evo X. Currently drive a ix mr.. and i would jump into a new X if they had an option to where the MR has A manual. I drove the new X MR and reallly didn't like it all to much the GSR is good but i really like my 6 speed. . maybe you can go around a turn faster with the new system. . but you can't really launch for ****. I know the car is made for circuit.. but wtf... i can't see myself using a paddle shift like an old man in his ****in lambo... Mitsu should bring back the option for a manuel on the MR. Anyone know if they have 6 speed manuels in Japan?? or if they plan on bringing one in the future to the states... thanks.

It's been talked and speculated a lot, but zero word on this. Not even rumors so I doubt they will send a six speed.

I saw a Top Gear episode comparing the FQ360 to a base STI. They said that the Stig used a 6spd GSR with 300hp to set the lap time. So it does exist according to Top Gear.

You either mis heard, or they mis-spoke. There is no 6 speed manual transmission Evo X. There's like 400 different FQ models in the UK, and you can get up to the FQ-330 w/ an SST.

This is actually quite surprising they at least don't offer the option.

In the UK there is no MR badged Evo only the GSR. So it was a 6 speed twin clutch with 300hp that the Stig was using.

Yeah, you can get the SST in the GSR model, but no Traditional manual.

Kind of sucks. It looks like manual transmission is slowly dying out.

Floppy paddle shifters are a fad. They make a great option, but making them mandatory is not the way of the future.

2011/2012 upgrades for the X....?

I know everyone's skeptical about the Evo's future. But what about the very near future? There's a lot of time between now and 2013. So how about some ideas of what could do to finish off the last iteration of a combustion engine Evo? Obviously the key here is to make substantial improvements with a budget-oriented mindset.

So let's do it. No over the top upgrades here. We're talking no kidding, realistic, obtainable improvements.

I'll start:

Direct Injection !!! Is it too much to ask? Even the small budget sporty cars (Mazda comes to mind) are rockin this. Doesn't DI yield better fuel economy too?

Better quality interior materials. I'm sure a sturdier dash like the VW's wouldn't be that hard to replicate. The faux CF trim is lame. And I'm not sure about the VIII's and IX's, but our interior is EXACTLY like the base Lancer's... Which sort of pisses me off.

Factory Gauges. No brainer.

RS trim. Nothing but the necessities.

Some type of tranny upgrade, whether it be a strong 6MT, or a taller final drive in the 5MT. Upgraded clutches would go without saying.

Thoughts?

I agree on your wish list. Some nice factory gauges should be an option. Direct Injection could help fuel economy, but a taller 5th or a 6 speed would really help for the highway mileage. The STI 6-speed is nearly bullet proof, so there is no reason mitsu couldn't do it.

It's not worth it for Mitsubishi to develop a new or a modified version of the previous 6-speed manual when they have a perfectly fine 5-speed manual and a 6-speed dual clutch at this point in time.

Direct injection would be nice, and I'd think Mitsubishi would bump the factory rating to 300 hp, which would be a nice milestone, especially for marketing purposes, particularly against the STI. I don't see this not happening, considering how the Evo VIII had some bumps in power after two years in the U.S. market.

I'm hoping for iPod/iPhone integration, as the RCA inputs are helpful but not quite what I'd be expecting of a mid-$30k car in this day and age. And if they add it, I'd hope that it's standard, and if not, I'd hope that it's not a $400 option like it is in some other cars.

Also, making the alcantara/leather seating surfaces from the X MR standard across the board (like how the IXs all shared the same surfaces) would be nice, seeing how a lot of people I know with the X GSRs aren't huge fans of the seating surfaces.

we will not see a six speed.... mitsu thinks the SST is the answer and will put a version of it most cars they make.

Don't hold your breath and many of the above requests. Direct injection and a revised 6speed manual tranny are VERY expensive items to engineer (even though Mitsu. was one of the 1st car companies to mass produce DI equipped cars in the early '90's back in Japan. With poor results).
In order to create and produce these items you need funding from product profits. Something Mitsu. hasn't seen in quite awhile. Not saying they won't happen but...

Better quality interior materials will probably not happen. The materials are way better than previous models IMO and it's a sports car. If you want luxury don't buy it, lol. The previous model interiors look the same as base lancers more or less also, so that's not changing, and the faux cf is like a trademark for the interior of Evo's, so I highly doubt that will be touched either.

Gauges are a possibility.

Dear lord, I hope the RS is a possibility also.

Tranny upgrade, like someone else said, not gonna happen. I hope they fix the center diff issue on the previous X's though.

Also, like someone else said, I hope they start offering the leather from the MR Touring as an option. I hope they don't put it with the SSS package though, I wish they would make it as an option by itself, because I hate sunroofs but I don't mind the leather, lol. Doubt they would make it seperate though, but I still think it would be a good idea.

Also, besides the base Lancer, I'd almost bet that the Ralliart and Evo's are the most popular Mitsu cars right now. If this is statistically true, I sure hope they fix some of the minor issues with them. (center diff, weird rear seat burn, etc.)
