I think the Evo tuning community would be able to work with it just as well as we have a dedicated bunch.
As has been stated you are probably going to have issues running even moderately larger turbochargers such as the FPgreen with DI unless Mitsubishi went overboard on their injector specs. The days of building 450 hp EVO's would be pretty much finished if they brought in DI. I agree it makes for probably a better stock and mildly modded experience but you are limited strictly to the limitations of the stock fuel system.

on top of that, Mitsu has been out of WRC for years. there's no reason to keep the engine 2.0 and there hasn't been for a quite a while.

Well, now that AMS is going to be using their 'new' 2.2L on Gates' X, we'll see how well it holds up... But for sure, a factory higher cc motor would be ideal, as it would be covered..

Nope no six speed manny on the x only the 9. sst is 6 speed auto. I think they did it cause many people had a lot of probs with the 6 speed manual in the 9mr, but most of the prob were with high power output from what I have seen. I wish they made a option for a 6 speed on the mr or gsr 3,000 rpm at 70 mph sucks for gas mileage, but least I dont have to downshift to a passing gear.
I wonder if you can do a 9mr swap with the X that would be cool.

HKS has a 6MT on their CZ200S. Obviously, its just a prototype, but it exists, and performs very well.

It's no fad. In fact paddle shifters are pretty well available on most regular automatics and CVT's and that's not counting all the twin clutch & sequential autos that exotics and luxury cars all come with. I don't think the manual transmission is going anywhere but even before paddle shift autos over 85% of all cars sold came with automatic transmissions.

Don't hold your breath for a X with a manual 6 speed. Maybe on the XI, keep in mind that it takes time to research a new tranny. They are not just gonna magically release one out of the blue.

I agree with everyone, I would make it an option for people who want a 6 speed manual.

But to offer 3 different trannys for the same car gets costly....

Subaru offers only one tranny for the STI.
