As far as I know, the differences are many. To begin with the RS is very basic and has no sound proofing, power windows, HID headlight, wing, gauges or radio.
It also lacks the 6 speed tranny, bilsteins and BBS wheels. Of course, it costs a good bit less too.... Anyway, there might be more differences. Why don't you look in the
website and see?

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess there are no speakers.. However, the wiring harness is probably the same as all EVOs so the plugs should be all there.... Somebody with an RS ought to check and post here

No radio, no speakers. Everything is prewired, even the antenna.

The RS costs a whole lot less in many peoples eyes ($7k). There's a whole slew of differences that aren't mentioned on the website. Everything from the carpet delete to the special RS (read "cheap") handbrake. Although I guess this belongs in one of the numerous RS threads.

Obviously I chose the MR, but I think this is a silly sort of question. Why make a choice between the RS and the MR? These cars are so different that there is no real basis for comparison. These cars are made for completely different purposes.
The RS is a car made for racing purposes only. It's got absolutely no frills which will not improve performance except for the A/C for the American market. It's fast, it handles and stops very well. It's also very loud and lacking in amenities. But it's also very cheap...It's purpose is for motorsports...... If you want a car for performance only, the RS is the ticket.

The MR is the polar opposite. It's refined, quiet, comfortable and very cool. It does not give up much in performance, but it's meant to be driven in comfort while still retaining superb performance characteristics. If you want a car that runs and handles beautifully while retaining great driveability and comfort, the MR is for you if you are willing to pay the premium price.

Bottom line, it depends what you want and what you can afford. Either way you get a great car!

RS and MR are both cheap little toasters and I can say that cause I just went to an '05 RS from a Benz. The tradeoff doesn't bother me at all! A car is a car. Dont mind rolling up windows with arm muscle. Car is so small I can reach over and roll it down..big deal! I went from sporty dress shoes to the new Jordans. I am happy. Now is the MR worth $7-9k more(including markups) for extra gear and Yellow Bilsteins & the Vortex thingy anyone can buy & install on any EVO?...dunno bout that one. For $40K+tax there are alot of car options out there. For $30ish there arent as many. My perception of the new RS is that its just as cheap on the inside as the power windowed, map lighted MR and goes just as fast. MR's make alot of $ per unit for Mitsu. Bilsteins arent the holy grail of shocks & black rims wont be in style forever. I heard a rumor ALL '06 EVO's might get the 6 speed so where will the novelty be in the '05 MR then?

The leather in the reg VIII is NICE. If the Leather CAME in the MR for the price id say MR.? Id keep the $10k and got get a CBR1000 or R1 if I had that kind of commitment to decide on.

??? The EVO is so small?? Compared to what... The C Benz is not any larger inside than the EVO..... I don't understand what your comparison is all about. As for cheap, it's only cheaper than the Benz in price, has no monopoly in quality issues. For all the hype, the German cars have a lot of little and not so little QC issues.... Anyway, comparing a Benz sedan with the Lancer EVO is like comparing apples to oranges.

First of all, the MR is not priced at $40K, far from it, it's a $35K car and for the $5K difference in price, it's well worth it over the GSR or the RS. It's all about what you prefer. If leather seats blow your skirt up, then by all means get them. There are a lot of ppl around who'll buy a GSR or RS and spend a lot of money modding them to get more performance. The MR has the extra handling, driveabilty, lower CG, 6 speed, etc. for a reasonably priced premium. As for the future, no one can foretell it with accuracy. I'd be more inclined to think that if more refinements and options are added to the base EVO, it will carry a comparably higher price tag. I say if you prefer the RS or GSR to the MR and you are happy with them, then more power to you. OTOH, there is no basis in fact to say that the MR is not worth the extra $5K.... It's definitely worth it if you want it
