he special edition EVO with a 6-speed manual

A Mitsubishi source told Motoring.com that when it phases out the six-speed TC-SST automatic transmission in March 2015, the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution limited edition model will be offered in Japan with a 6-speed manual gearbox. There’s no word on whether this new transmission will be coming to the U.S. market. Stay tuned.

The 6 speed is the only thing this car is missing. People complain about the crappy gas mileage, but what do you expect when you have to rev at almost 4k at normal freeway speeds?

Ok, it is missing more than just the 6 speed, but you get my point....

But the six speed has never been rated better than the five speed in terms of fuel economy...

if you mean the 8/9 six speed, i think the similar gas mileage is partly due to the additional aero on the MRs. but i generally agree that there would be no significant difference even with identical aero.

I meant ANY, as I'm pretty sure the X MR was also just shy of the X GSR in the mpg department, though not by much.

I would note that my X MR got pretty poor fuel mileage. Worse than my VIII. (Although my VIII was tuned, and got better fuel mileage after the tune.)

I always suspected that the TC-SST was probably sapping 5-10% of fuel mileage off the top compared to a conventional manual transmission -- just based on its design with three shafts instead of two, and with a wet clutch instead of a dry clutch, etc. I have no data point for that, but it made sense from an engineering basis...

1st gear from standpoint, *stock*, you really gotta press gas to move the slug. Thing like that just ruins gas mileage for me, who has a lot of stop and go traffic.
