jemm, that's awesome.

Man, makes our US Evo's look outdated.

AT full diff lock its 50:50 Front:Rear... but when the diff is unlocked (eg when u pull up the parking brake) the front wheels have 100% of the power.

Nice info zstryder !

My E6 that I had, was equiped with the same VCU and rear diff that you guys have in the states. The only difference is that it had a front lsd. Honestly ... for high HP & dragging applications, I prefer your driveline! .. stronger & less "issues"

Haha maybe... but I'd prefer to wring the Evo out on a more technical course! There's no fun in only going straight. Now I guess the question is... how much faster could I be with the active diffs?

Did you swap out the AYC on your E6?

nah .. it was an RS2 ... rear lsd (the same exact one on the usdm)

One of the main reasons I sold it was the arrival of the Evo CT9a chassis in the states.... parts and aftermarket stuff are so easy to get now.. along with a lot more choices. Besides the E7,8 is a nicer road car anyday... imho

The downside is that.... reading EvoM can be a painful experience with regards to your wallet! So many cool mods here.

Honestly... I think the active diff cars will be coming to the states, once Subaru drops the next evolution of their STI... but I fear the prices may be too much.

we will see.

I agree, my wallet is crying all the time!

In any case, the STi already has the DCCD here, I dunno what else was different from the JDM version though... ( aside from that funky 2.5L that has had all sorts of problems)

you know.... despite the stuff they've done to the MR i think i'm just gonna stick with my normal Evo... i can still spend that much extra from my price of 27K and mod a bit more and have more HP and run better than the MR. i dunno i just don't think 9 extra stock HP and an ACD is really worth another 9K is worth it.. besides with Ralliart performance packages comin in Mid April i can wait that long and not another few more months just my opinion

The ACD is actually really cool.

From what I understand, it disengages the diffs when the handbrake is pulled, unlike the center VCD in the US Evo8.
Pull the handbrake on the US Evo8 on a non-slippery surface and you can fry your diffs.

The other function of the ACD is that in Tarmac mode, it is 25-75% split. Gravel mode is 50-50% and Snow mode is 75-25%.
This refers to the front-rear power bias.

The SAYC/ACD combined gives the Evo amazing grip/traction especially on the tarmac surface.

All WRC rally cars use active front/center/rear diffs.

Some thoughts on the MR vs standard EVO:

03' EVO for 26k new or 04'/05' MR for 1-2k above MSRP/34/35k. It could be a 7-8k differance! The MR certainly is the shiznit but 7k buys you alot of mods. The MR also may not be a better daily driver. I have heard service costs of the active diff etc.. are very costly. I think you can't go wrong either way-

Re:

By the time the Stealers finish the "I'll try and pork this I have to have this car" sucker the MR should be around +/- 40K. Good Ole business practices at their best. BTW I have seen this practice many times, For ex. when a mid year model improvement is installed in a vehicle and you just missed the upgrades or enhancements by a month or less Mfers.

I picked up the issue of SPEED for the article on the MR. I couldn't help though but notice something.

The gear ratios and the 0-60 time.

I don't know, it just seemed a bit too quick, even it was launched within 500 revs of the redline.

Doing the math, that you're going to be at 58.2mph when you say hello to 7000rpms, so that would involve shifting into 3rd, which for even a driver with ninja skills will take 0.2 seconds (maybe faster? I could manage 0.2 on a really good day). The only thing I could see is if the rev limiter was higher than the redline. If the rev limiter was at 7500, you can hit 62.7 mph before the comp-u-nanny scolds you.

I just hope 4.3 isn't a number I hear at the dealer if this does come stateside. Like the fellow at the Mazda dealer who said "Well, gee whiz, this RX-8 whatchmacallit hits 0-60 in 5.x!" , but was ready to take my head off when I wanted to validate the claim with a near 8000rpm launch. Was sort of amusing.

The gear ratios are the same as those on the JDM 8 GSR. And the rev cut for the 8 GSR comes in at around 7750 RPM. So, it is possible to hit 62 mph in 2nd if you're especially brutal. Not too sure about the timing though.

just an fyi, people can shift in less then a tenth of a second. maybe someone has some datalogs to prove it? i have some from my turbo mustang, but none were done in a 1/4 mile. they were just roll-ons to get the a/f sorted out (no fast shifts).
