Anybody trading their base Evo for an MR?
If the MR gets discounted (eventually) like the Evo, then i would consider one.
I paid the full msrp ($30,052) for my Evo and now they are around for about $26k if you shop...... that makes my trade in (i have 10k miles and no mods) worth about $22k....
no way i am paying $11k difference......

When I found out that Mitsubishi was going to be releasing the 2004 model soon, and that the MR and RS were possibly coming to the states as well, I purchased my brand new 2 day old 2003 BBY Evolution. I really wanted to have the very first model that was released in the states.
I was ready to buy an 03, but if it sounds like MR is coming by year's end I may wait (as has been the advice I've gotten here and elsewhere for the past couple of weeks).
I'm hoping it will have some of the issues fixed, and the delay will allow me to save a lot more money (or pay off my student loans
)
But still, if there's a steal to be had on an '03, it will be tempting. . .

I can not see myself trading my Evo in on a MR.
I like 5 speed trannys, also, my suspension is set to my driving style, and I do not need anymore power. I know, you can never have to much, but I am very happy with the tune of my car. Plus, with my flash, I have more HP than an MR. The MR has more torque, but I do not care.
Even if I did not have my Evo, I would not get the MR. I would still get my model. I had the same decision with the STi and Evo. Spend 27.5 on the Evo, or 33 on the STi. I got my Evo.
I see a lot of people talking about the MR, but lets see who gets it. It is a 33,000 thousand dollar car, with a markup, it will be 35,000 dollars. Add 200 dollars a month in insurance, the cost of ownership is going to be around 800 dollars a month, unless you throw down a large down payment.
If you look at trading a current Evo in, then you have to eat the money you have spent on your current Evo, payments, mods, original down payment. Then eat the down payment on the MR, unless you have a ton of positive equity in your current Evo, then be willing to have a higher monthly payment, and more debt.
Hmmm, not something I want to do.
I think I will wait till my Evo is old, and can't be put back together, and see what is on the market then. That will be about 5 years from now. Then they might have something that is significantly better than my Evo, not something that might be marginally better (MR).
My 2 cents.

Smart people will get the MR at MSRP or less
For people waiting on an EVO the MR is a dream, not so good for current EVO owners but that's life
There's always something better around the corner
Stop trying to put down the MR, no matter what you say to make yourself feel better the MR is gonna be one fine piece of ***

I am sure the MR will be a fine car. My question. Do you own an Evo, and let me know when you get one. In the end, I own an Evo. Is there cars out there that can kick my cars ***. Yes. Have I lost races, yes. Is the MR a nicer car out of the box than my Evo, yes. But.....in the end. I STILL OWN AN EVO, and many people do not. I love my car, and I do not care what is around the corner.
Well said Kavman, for those that already have an EVO it is not worth it despite the MR being a better car optionwise and performance wise. I also don't think that the above post have been putting down the car rather they are simply justifying the choice not to get an MR when they already have an EVO.

EVOS been on my mind ever since
Was content on just waiting for the 04's to arrive since it's such an awesome car already but word of the MR coming has me on the sidelines for just a wee bit longer
You EVO owners are lucky, have an EVO to drive everyday while we wait for the MR
That's cool. For those that do not have an Evo, the MR is worth waiting for. As kimletrim said, I was just saying it is not finacially sound to trade a fairly new car in on another car. I am looking forward to the MRs and RS's showing up to Evo meets.
I think it will be worth it for the current Evo owners to wait till the Evo 10. By then our cars will be about 4 to 5 years old with 60K to 100K miles on them. But that is another topic to discuss when that time comes.
MR is sexy as hell and probably the better option of the two. But trading in is probaly not worth it unless mommy and daddy bought your Evo outright. The majority have payments, insurance, trade in valaue as well as MR mark up to consider.
Besides the one thing the Evo 8 has over the MR is that it is the 1st in our market of its kind. Collector value right there.
my .02 cents

IM thinking about trading in to get a spec C or the sti, but that is going to be a huge lost for me. For those who wants an MR, I would really think hard about that. Unless you track your car often or track it at all, then you should get an MR. As for people like me who likes street lights racing and straight line racing, then I think a GSR or the STI is more than what you want. MR would just be more maintenance cost. In that case, I see no other reason to buy the MR over the GSR except for the bragging rights.
I might trade up but I want to see a real MR first. If they really took off 300lbs I'd probably do it. I don't think the weight savings that folks are quoting are really true though and then I'd stay with my current EVO.
Originally, I was planning on getting the '03 because I thought the MR was a) a pipe dream b) going to be outrageously expensive and c) not going to be here for a full year.
However, now that it a) looks real b) not too much pricier and c) going to be here by December (maybe) . . . well now the picture has changed a bit.
I really wish there'd be some official announcements so I can start dreaming of colors, options, and what to name it

The real winner will be the dealer for making money on your trade and the lucky person who gets a slightly used modded Evo for thousands less then new. No thanks.

plus, has anyone looked at the final drive ratio of the 6-speed?
If the new 6th isn't taller than the current 5th, you'd be wasting time shifting.
Aside from that, how do we know the 6 speed doesn't have even more of a 1-2 problem than the 5 speed?
the AYC and ACD are really cool, but what about the smog stuff that took those components' place on the current Evo?
