Anybody trading their base Evo for an MR?
Anybody trading their base Evo for an MR?
Base Evo --271hp, 273tq 3175-3331 lbs (sunroof infinity sound system and leather interior)
Evo Mr--285hp. 293tq Estimated 300 lbs lighter than the current model aluminum roof , ACD, Bilstein shocks, 6spd.lighter wheels.
Road & Track stated 0-60 in 4.3 sec, they said it has a diff. turbo hence the increase in power and torque.and the 6spd. Estimated price is at $33,000.
Any of you Evo owners plan to trade in your current Evo for an MR version? Are they using the same clutch as the 03 models have? What kind of turbo are they using? Does it turn clockwise or the opposite direction?
MR is definately on its way here. is it worth paying the extra dough or just get the base and put in 4g's worth of mods? I myself am happy with my Evo and there's a 99.9% chance of me trading but for now, I'm 100% happy with mine.
What are your chances of trading your Evo for an MR?
We need more detailed specs for the MR. Anybody out there got the lowdown on this beast?

I still don't believe it's coming yet. I can't see Mitsubishi having 3 Evo models to choose from when this is a niche market.
I think the turbo is the same as the Evo 8. A bigger turbo would give you more than 14 more HP and 20 ft lb of torque. Prolly has different cams and ECU program.
I will keep my Evo as it has more HP and torque than the MR now with mods. 6 speed would be sweet, but can live w/o it. Plus, this car out drives me with the stock suspension. I can't see myself losing money on a practically new Evo just to trade up for a MR badge. The real winner will be the dealer for making money on your trade and the lucky person who gets a slightly used modded Evo for thousands less then new. No thanks.

agreed I believe it when I see it, the bilstens who cares? the mueller JIC are better, the 6-speed? the 5-speed is faster and more aggresive wonder why the euros want our 5-speed. Its not coming with AYC cause of emissions and who needs acd? the car is said to be a more fun drivers car with the viscious.
While the MR is likely a faster track car, there are also some disadvantages to it:
The MR will have 6 sp. Which is 20 lbs heavier than the 5 sp.
The MR will have front LSD and ACD, which will add at least
another 20 lbs and reduce the road feel through the wheel. They make up for some of the weight gain by using aluminum on the roof, which means the car will have less structural rigidity.
So if you go to a tuner, say Visnu just for example, and spend less money than you would to upgrade to the MR, you'll likely have a car which you couldn't drive much faster than the MR without being very very good.
I DO like the grey, though.

I found out a friend of mine was working at a local dealership so I went to talk to him.
The GM there said they should be seeing the 04's by the end of summer, 3 different models the RS, a model like the current, and the MR.
He said he just ordered a MR (he's so called top end model)
He has no reason to lie to me, so I believe him.

if it is released here the mark up will be retarded...
aside from the 6sp it would be much cheaper to get some coilovers, a stage 1 kit from vishnu or buschur and gut the interior.

If the MR does indeed show up and it gets classed in A Stock for autocross along with the regular Evo, then I will seriously consider trading up, but I won't be an early adopter like I was with my current car. Not that I've had any real problems with it or felt like I got ripped off or anything, but with one Evo in hand, I won't feel a need to rush if I do decide to go that way.
If it gets classed in SS, no way...

believe it when i see it
I can't see mitsu bringing the car when the evo didn't sell as well as they thought it would(no 2004 yet). If it comes I will believe it when i see it. You also gotta understand that A LOT of stuff printed in car/driver road/track is rumors and speculation. I don't believe anything those mags tell me. I hope it comes. I plan on keeping my evo, don't want to lose my *** in tradein or sale.
If it were only 4K to upgrade, it might be a different story, but when you factor in the depreciation on your car, trading up to an MR would probably cost well in excess of 10K. I can't see a mitsu dealer offering much more than 20K for an evo in perfect shape.. for that $$ I'd rather buy a slower and cushier daily driver so that my current "plain" evo will always seem fast.

from uk article:
A special process bonds the aluminium roof panel to the steel framing and with the strategic location of reinforcements results in a high rigidity body.
