MR in the New SCC

Too bad the Bilsteins cost about as much as a set of fully adjustable coilovers...

however I remember reading about something done to Evo 8 turbo that made it different from the 7 and I would assume different than the 6 too. Believe it was the cooling ducts that were larger so it cools better.
Therefore I would think that MR turbo will be different than the 6TME

I think the SCC folks as usual are a little more optimisitic than factually relaying and details from official sources.

The MR is supposed to weigh in at -2kg at sea level, and the FC brings it from 0->warp speed at the speed of light.

AHHH DANGIT, no zstrider, i read yer post about the disparity in curb weights and now i am thoroughly disheartened. btw, for all you that think r&t test drove a us evo in japan think again, check the pics, the supposedly left hand drive is just a transverse picture of a jdm rhd mr. so it's porlly really acutally only 30 pounds lighter, when i was hoping for the 241. now there's SO MUCH LESS REASON for me to get an mr and wait, cept for the better gearing in the 6 speed and acd. the weight was such a big factor though.
This weight argument is going nowhere. It seems noone has any official proof that I have seen yet...its all speculation. Got proof post it , then the arguement dies.
Now lets get to the real reason why we want the MR...The gray color > *
Other then that I do have a question, Why put a sun roof on the Mitsubishi Racing edition Evo?
Regardless that it isnt stripped nude, its like a equiped version of the RS. Its for people who want RS capability, but dont want it stripped. Atleast thats my take on it.
Although i do wish it had cruise control
but o well.

Specs of the EvoMR GSR:

Look. It only lists 10kg difference. It might be more/less depending on options (since the BBS wheels are options). People, it's not 300lb less. Period.
The MR is just a new model of the Evo. Think of it as the Evo8.5. The MR has a RS model too, they're simply not offered here in the US.
Hopefully the 05 RS will be with the MR lightening, but yah it's all speculation until we get some road tests that weigh the car.
Again it is still not an easy choice since a few minor snags cold be smoothed over.
1. Cruise Control option for all models
2. 6 speed option on RSs
3. sunroof option on MR
That right there would pretty much make me want to replace the daily driver with an MR, and the RS for weekend circuit fun. I'd take the stripped RS with just cruise, so I could drive it to and from the track without concern for speeding.
And an MR with sunroof and cruise would have it all. The sunroof is enough to get in with the "true" sports car crowd right? open, wind in your hair feel and all.

There is no mystery about the weight difference. It is 20 - 30 less at the max. No way could it be 300 lbs never was even in Japan.
US adds mass with these features
+ 6 speed +?
+ ACD +?
Subtracts mass with these changes
+ Aluminum Roof -8.8 lbs
+ Aluminum Door beams - 7.7 lbs
+ BBS forged wheels -11 lbs
Do the numbers

Losing weight is losing weight and if they can take it out of door beams and roofs, then keep all the goodies and you get a win-win situation.
When you start offering one thing for another, its annoying as a consumer.
I'm in the market for a weekend toy that will get used frequently at track events and so am looking to try to keep costs down so I can spend more on lots of brake pads, tires, oil, maintenance, etc. I was hoping for a car with some creature comforts that could comfortably be driven to the track, pick my wife up after and then out to dinner afterwards. Based on all this and hopes the 05 RS might have some of the MR lightening bits like lighter doors and roof and all the other things removed, I might end up with an 05 RS. But that means my wife is not going to be as happy, so it might mean swapping rides before heading out to dinner, but can at least take the RS to work on Friday then head to the track at noon and then home to swap cars before heading to dinner at 6. It'll make for more fun at the track, but won't be as versatile for double dates or cruises around the lake with family and friends.
We all know the Evo is the closest 4 door sedan performanc wise to a Super Car and with $10k in Mods you can run with em, but things super cars have that aren't as easy to get aftermarket are basically moonroof and cruise control. More power is ridiculously cheap to get out of an Evo and things like leather seats, or meatier tires, or coil overs are easily swapped in the garage in an evening. Improved Aero devices aren't quite as common for the Evo, but if some CF manufacturers, with access to a wind tunnel, thought it worthwhile ( enough evos sold to warrant making some parts ) and looked at the Evo, 200+mph with 8000rpm slightly larger tires and the six speed would be quite a record to set for a 4 door econo box.
This is getting long.. argh. Either way, the 05 MR doesn't look like it's getting a moonroof option or cruise control. And the RS doesn't look like it's getting a 6 speed option. If the transmission is federalized, it's really a bad management decision ( not a technical limitation ) to not offer the options.
As far as I know, the MR has the GSR shell + new lightened roof and door beams. The RS lightweight shell is different, but is lighter than the GSR shell. I think in other countries the best bet would be a RSII, which used the RS shell, but had all the goodies of the GSR (ACD+AYC etc.).
uhm... when is it ever a good management decision to offer moonroof or even more ridiculous, 6speed transmission, on a trimline that isn't suppose to have it? i see no civics with leather, that's cuz if you want leather you get another car. i see no supra n/a's with a getrag 6 speed as a factory option, same goes for 3000gt and 300z, that's cuz the top trimline gets the top stuff. albeit cruise control is deleted in the mr, this is because they had to make room for something else am i right (totally a guess) i mean they did remove the intercooler sprayer to make room for acd. but even if that's not the case, the cruise control delete is typical super car protocall yeah? i geuss it's a moot point, they can't make everyone happy heh, but if you have all the money in the world any option is open to you. if you don't (which is prolly the case) it's too bad that mitsu can't serve us all up a special made evo.
