UCC How-to create a very base map

I wrote this up because when I had a UTEC this was the best program I used to create maps and log. Remember this was my way of doing it and never had a complaint by any of the cars i tuned using this method. This is my rough draft so any help would be great.

MAKING BASE MAP HOW-TO

UCC V4

1. Start UCC
2.Goto Logger/ Create new file
3. Log a wide open throttle pull in either 3rd or 4th (preferable) gear
4. When done logging stop logging and view log
5. Highlight using Select and down arrow to every 100% throttle line (must be 100%, no 99 or lower will be accepted)
6. Goto "Graph" and select "New"
7. Under the "Runs" column right-click on first line and select "Load Selection from Logger"
8. Give it a label when asked
9. Goto Map Editor select New
10.select Map editor again and select Timing Map Tools select Create Skeleton
11. when asked enter "yes"

This will bring up the timing givin from the log, doesn't seem like a whole lot is filled in correct? Well remember all the other "Runs" you could have entered? You can use as many 100% lines as need be this will give you a hi and low of your timing map to see where your car sits.

12.Again goto "Map Editior"/Timing Map tools/Fill Map
13 Load up the newly created map.
This will fill in using a calculation of the rest of your timing map.

You have just created a great starting point.

TIPS:

When doing 100% throttle runs start as low in the rpm band as possible 2000 is perfect and then do a WOT to redline, this will create the most linear timing the car makes. Remember you have 8-10 spots for loading up "Runs" and you only have 5-6 gears. The top gears will hard to log in if your doing it on the street since the top of 4th is about 120 and the top of 5th on the street is kinda unsafe.

If you are going to use more than 1 "Run" which is preferable and can be taken from the same log use Steps 4, 6-8 in order.

While logging you may experiance the CEL light flashing, this is your new knock light. If you want to know how much knock you have while logging set your "Alarms" Goto preferances, Highlight "Knock" under Condition, and Greater or Equal, then under "Value" type in 3. Under Sound file select any file saved on your computer to make an audible warning. This will make a sound every time the UTEC senses knock at or above 3 counts. If you are using a TXS tuner you can also make an alarm for AFR, very handy in case your running lean.

Use as amny non-knock logs as possible, remember you can always make a new map if you don't have any non-knock logs, just back off timing a little bit or add fuel in its appropriate load/rpm cell Back timing off .2 degrees or add .2 fuel.

Now you can start to get you afr's to 11.2-11.5 depnding on how aggressive you want your fueling to be.

Remember log as much as possible, this is the only way you will see how your car is performing.

Personally I have always left the 0% column in the timing map set to ECU, this will give you almost no tip-in hesitation.

Any other tips or trick can either be PM'ed to me, or e-mailed. I will review and add if necessary or if i forgot something.

To get the car dialed in a little quicker start tuning your afr's, set it to your desired level and then tune the timing IN SMALL STEPS, I personally went with .8-1.0 degrees of timing per logging run to catch knock quickly.

Nice, I baseline my maps the same way, only at the time I was doing it alot there wasn't a way to make skeleton maps so I'd put the data into excel and build maps by hand.

Hey, is it alright to sort by the TPS column and select all the 100's at once, rather than selecting them one by one. I tried it and it seemed to work fine. It made a decent looking map. Thanks for the write up.

Yes select all of the 100% tps column and hit shift to get the entire "run"

Since there are a few new users out there I figure I would revive my old thread.

Once again remember to make small adjustments while tuning, especially in the timing map, this is where most if not all problems happen.
