I'd definitely take an ECUtek custom tune from a reputable tuner over a UTEC.
Fortunately none of the bad experiences that the Subaru guys had applies to the Evo..

It has great logging capabilities, the interface is a bit dated, but it is the only piggyback capable of bypassing ECU limitations (fuel cut, RPM limit, etc) without doing a reflash..

FWIW User tunability in the ECUTek product is not available yet, and probably won't be for some time.. Consider ECUFlash freeware and the OpenPort reflash/logger cable as one of your options.. ECUTek locks you out of your ECU so you can't make changes yourself in the future (if that matters)

I actually run ECUtek with my UTEC. For just daily driving on 91 i use the ECUtek and i have a race gas tune and nitrous tune on my UTEC i use for the track and the remote map switch comes in handy when your on the fly and i want to use my nitrous map.

So far i have had no problems and i think that they work great together.
