bov help..
bov help..
have the hks ssqv and i come to find out yesterday that it has had a vaccuum leak the whole time i've had it in.... so i got that fixed... now my car runs like ****... insane turbo lag and erratic idle (mostly when cold).... what is causing this and how can i fix it???
vta, no flash, only other 'mods' don't really affect this (act clutch and hks turbo timer).. that vaccuum leak was there for like a year (with no problem, but you also couldn't hear it so i thought it was recirced, i obviously didn't install it), it was when i fixed it that i have problems now..
Sounds like the stupid hks ssqv was not even working before the vac leak was fixed ie no problem (a little hard on the turbo though), and now it is probably slightly open all the time which is bad news. You cannot recirc a hks ssqv so to fix the problem:
1 remove hks ssqv off the car
2 install a new bov (the Tomei Blow Off Valve looks exactly like the stock EVO IX part)
3 refit the recirculating hose from the intake to the bov
4 problem solved.

you could also go for the Forge (popular on this forum)

or if you would like the option to make some noise the Go Fast Bits Stealth FX allows you to adjust between fully recirc to fully atmo or anywhere in the middle. They do make one that has a servo control so you can do this from inside the car it is called the Deceptor.

but the main thing here is GET RID of that HKS.

The problem is not the Super Sequential. The problem is user error. Specifically, there is no reason to run an atmosphere-vented blowoff valve on a MAS car. Regardless of whether it was a GReddy RS, a TiAl, etc - the problem is not that the blowoff valves are junk.
Get the recirculation fitting (part number HKS 1421-FIT001) and recirculate the blowoff valve. Everything will be peachy-keen after that.

No matter how well the ssqv bov is made and whatever exotic materials are used to make it is not going to be as fast reacting and release pressure as fast as the piston type bovs. The reson for that is the the ssqv requires that the actuator port will be under vacume in order to pull the valve open under the pressure of the turbo boost. This vacume is created after the throttle if shut. Where the piston type bovs work on the pressure differential between the air below the piston (boost) and the air after the throttle, and it is the boost that blows the valve open. This action is far quicker and a more violent release of pressure.
if you measere the pressure at the wastegate feed port of the turbo (pump side) you are likely to find a boost spike with the ssqv due to the reflected wave of the throtle flap.
