Question IX specific thread

Can we have an IX specific engine thread? I'm trying to find who is using what on the IX but these gems are lost in the non-IX posts. Also, in talking to the various vendors, I get the feeling that they are still learning what works and whats redundant with IX mods.

I'd like to get specific answers to IX related things like:

1) who is getting what HP wise on the dyno and with what mods?

2) what dont we need to do with and IX? (e.g. does a new muffler really add much, once you have got rid of the boost taper?)

3) who is taking advantage of the IX's significantly upgraded ECU? How and to what effect? Has anybody figured out how to get the IX's ECU to do real time boost control etc etc. Are piggy-backs now redundant given the increased capability of this ECU?

4) do we really need an upgraded fuel pump with the IX or is its higher capacity fuel pump already OK?

5) are the IX's rod and head studs OK or do these need to be replaced for high RPM and/or boost as with previous EVO's?

^ those are cool questions and i would also love it if they combined it all into one or made a thread that did only relate to the Evo 9's but i think we're about to get flamed soon

Why not?

I also would love a specific thread for the IX. It is a different car from the IIIV and it would make information easier to find for those of us with one or for those interested in getting one.

1) who is getting what HP wise on the dyno and with what mods?

It really depends on what mods you are putting on the car and whos tuning it. Some people like to stay mild while some like to go wild. Just for reference here is my bone stock IX on a Dyno Dynamics dyno that was flashed by Shiv from Vishnu.

http://forcedfours.com/showthread.php?t=214

There are tons of threads that show examples of power made by IX's with very little mods. Checked out www.forcedfours.com in the Vishnu section and you will see some of the results from the Dyno4mance dyno day of other IX's that had exhausts.

http://forcedfours.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22

2) what dont we need to do with and IX? (e.g. does a new muffler really add much, once you have got rid of the boost taper?)

A new exhaust will help a IX but an exhaust alone will not make the power that adding an exhaust and a tune will add. The IX ecu does not react the same way to just adding an exhaust like the VIII's do. Boost taper will occur any time you are using the stock boost solenoid. It will also happen when using an MBC but not to such a great extent.

3) who is taking advantage of the IX's significantly upgraded ECU? How and to what effect? Has anybody figured out how to get the IX's ECU to do real time boost control etc etc. Are piggy-backs now redundant given the increased capability of this ECU?

In my opinions Vishnu is taking advantage of the ECU the most with their ability to work with MIVEC and produce good smooth numbers. Other companies are working with it as well but some of the best results that I have seen have come from the Vishnu camp. Not man piggy backs are out for the IX at this time. I believe Motec and another company have piggy backs available for the IX but don't quote me on that. AEM has not yet released a standalone for the IX and vishnu is currently working on its harness so that XEDE can be used in the IX.

4) do we really need an upgraded fuel pump with the IX or is its higher capacity fuel pump already OK?

I believe the IX fuel pump is still the same but I could be wrong.

5) are the IX's rod and head studs OK or do these need to be replaced for high RPM and/or boost as with previous EVO's?

The bottom end is the same as the VIII as far as I know. Any time you run high boost/rev's you will want to upgrade certain engine components. I do not know if Mitsu upgraded anything in the head with the addition of MIVEC. I did see a thread on here about the pistons being different but I would have to search for it and find it.

They changed the design of the water passages on the IX head and this has helped make the IX less knock prone as well when compared to the VIII....or so Ive read

Rumor also has it that the stock muffler design is different and higher flowing than the VIII was...once again....or so Ive read

Edit: and just another addition...Upgraded metal BOV so there is no more stock BOV leak once you hit 13+ psi or whatever the VIII BOV leaked at.

Nice response Thetox!! Thanks for the info.

Looks like we may have the beginnings of an IX specific thread here anyway.

No problem. Id be glad to provide any info that I can. There is also a very good ACD thread on here that Terry S created but that is more drivetrain related. Does contain info about how the ACD reacts when in the different modes.

just for reference.

One thing I would like to get a definite answer on is the range of timing that MIVEC utilizes. Ive heard that it is variable from -15 degrees to +15 degrees(infinitely variable within that range), but I would like to get a definite answer on the range of timing that is used...and the actual range of timing that is utilized while driving. Anyone happen to know this?

IX MR = 295 AWHP after Shiv tune @ Vishnu , Greddy Ti cat back, Works HFC and Tanabe 2.75 DP.

What not to do? Intake or filter.

I agree. A IX specific forum section would help me greatly in my search for knowledge for my car. The IX posts do get lost in with the gazzillion posts for the VIII. Any possibility of this??

you dont need an intake...filter is fine, but if its an oil bath filter make sure the excess oil is removed so you dont screw up your MAF. the stock airbox has been proven to be good for over 400whp...I <3 how good my car feels after shiv worked his magic on it too...270 awhp with just a flash

i also agree that a IX specific section would be sweet
