Re-flash, Piggyback, or Stand-alone?

Okay, I'm a noob and I know I'm going to get burnt for this one, but.............

I am new to evos and i have been trying to get a build plan together for a couple months now. My goal is 375-400whp. I guess my question is what type of engine management system would you guys suggest for a 400whp car? I just can't decide. I am considering nitrous and water/meth injection and I like the control that the AEM and similar systems offer for those types of applications. I guess what I'm trying to say is should I go with the AEM EMS or could I go 400hp/400+ on nitrous with something like the S-AFC-II? Sorry for the noob question, just looking to get pointed in the right direction.

I have a mail in dynoflash right now. And i ran a AFC on my gen 1 eclipse, which was at 380 hp. To be honest with you, I have seen 400 hp on a flash, BUT it is not the most common. IMO if your willing to spend the MAJOR bucks to get 400 hp (through bolt-ons, and additions, etc.), then you should get some kind of EMS. The versatility of an EMS is more practical for that kind of HP. I am torn myself, but my decisonwould be easier, and could go wither way, because my target is 330-350 WHP for road racing only.

A lot of people say the stock ecu + flash is fine up to 500whp. Just download ECUFlash for free, buy the $90 tantrix cable, $25 Evoscan, find a tuner of your choice and your all set. I don't know about the nitrous though...

come to think, if your going nitrous, at least do a custom tune, especially with adding Meth. I have heared that the Nitrous when hit freaks out the maps a little, But I am not certain. I have never squeezed before...

Hey BBYBRUNO, that set-up with the Tantrix cable and evo scan is something that I want to learn a lot more about. I am very interested, can you refer me to some info on it?

Just use the search function on the homepage of evom. Use the words Evoscan, Ecuflash, Tantrix Cable, you'll find a lot of threads with great info.

Some tuners you might want to talk to are TTP and Dynoflash since they do a lot of work with those applications.

Yeah, your right. I don't think that i would even think of running nitrous or meth on the stock ecu. I know alot of people shun nitrous but we have had alot of success with it in the past on other cars and so it's hard to not consider it. Although none were forced induction at the time.
What I'm really interested in is safety features that would make the nitrous or meth safer. I would like to have something that went into a "safe" mode if the meth pump failed or in the event of a fuel pump failure or something similar.

I would check with Buschur racing in regards to the meth saftey mode. I believe that there is a fail safe mode for it, but not certain. As for nitrous, your guess is as good as mine. I know that if your meth runs out un-expectedly if can jack up the motor. But a meth kit is a constant adative to your engine. Nitrous is not, so I don't know what fail safe features are offered. On a different note, as a newbie myself I can assure you that the only dumb/stupid question is one that doesn't get asked. Beware some senior members, I have seen some condascending remarks towards the newbies. And to them, advice is always preferred over personal opinion! ;-)

As far as safety goes with Nitrous, we always used a full throttle switch combined with window switches and a fuel pressure safety shut off switch. that way it could only spray when at full throttle within a certain rpm range that we specified and would automatically stop spraying if the fuel pressure dropped. Pretty safe setup. I would like to find an ems that would let me control all of that and have seperate setups for when i didn't want to spray nitrous or meth.

And I've seen what you mean about some of the members being jerks to new guys. I wish when i was at work and someone asked me a question i could just tell them to use the search button
