Effects of Lower Reading TPS on ECU

I have known of is "issue" that my TPS sensor only ranges from 13-87% (not 100%) for about 6 months. The TB opens fully and the cables are adjusted correctly. The problem is the sensor itself.

I've honestly been on the fence with replacing it since that time as my car runs very strong. Ran 12.3 @ 111 on my 255/40/17s in October with a bad 1.73 60'. With my OE tires and adjusting the 2step I think the 12.1 run is there.

And from what I know its been like this since I bought the car in new 04. Then tuned orginally by TurboTrix back in 05.

I have attached a EvoScan log file with everything needed in it. (Dont mind the knock - I pulled the car out of storage with winter stabilzer in the tank and did some logs over T'giving)

What effects would a TPS sensor that reads a maximum of 87% have on the ECU under WOT? Does it appear that the ECU is going into the correct load cells? Worth getting a new(er) TPS?

Thanks for any input/ideas/help,
SmikeEvo

Should have thought of this earlier/last night. It isn't causing idle issues, is it?

Have you tried servicing it?

And you spelt "Bought" wrong. (fixed, har)

Har har...Im multi-tasking 3 other things right now

Yes I have taken the TPS off and played with it while logging at the same time - only reads 12ish to 87%. No servicing of the part other than getting a different one.

i think there is a stopper behind the pedal and maybe that is what is preventing you to reach 100%

I had the TPS off the TB and was changing its values by hand - 87% is its max.

I'm not sure what all the ECU uses the TPS voltage for. i know it's used for crossover to open loop, which could potentially cause issues.

As far as the load levels, the TPS isn't used for that calculation. The main value considered there is airflow and that's based on the mechanical operation of the TB and not the sensor.

Does the sensor read correctly up to 87% and just stop, or is it skewed through the entire range?

Good - so it may not be of any worry as far as the cars tuning is concerned.

The TB opens fully under WOT (visually inspected this).

Yes, the sensor reads correctly then stops right at 87%.

Ha - dont have one to put in there. New ones cost $220 - not worth fixing if it does not mess with the car.

Voltage?... Grounding issue?... that's what I'm thinking.

I have tuned multiple cars with misbehaving TPS sensors. Some of them start at 100% and then taper down 70% by redline. They had no impact on the power output or driveability of the car. IMO, it is not worth paying $220 to fix it.

Thanks guys. Ya I re-tuned my car over break and made a solid 300/300 with EvoScan. Power is really smooth now and kicks in nice.

So - TPS fixing is now mute.
