$100 wideband o2 setup

At last, its happened. I never could get my head around why the o2 controllers from innovate and others are so expensive. The bosch o2 sensor is actually relatively simple to drive - its just a pump driving circuit with a meter for the changes in voltage when the lambda changes.

Well, some guy has saved the day with a $50 wideband controller. Ok, its DIY and you need to solder. But if you dont want to, you can buy it pre-built for $80. Either way, it apparently works with the bosch wideband o2 sensor. The unit has serial output for datalogging. Theres also a $25 display kit for an AFR readout.

The bosch sensors are about $50, so if you just get the controller, the sensor and output the data to a logger via your serial port, you have a wideband o2 setup for $100.

Suffice to say, ive gone and ordered the kit for the unit and screen. I already have a bosch o2 sensor here. I will let you guys know how the build goes and how the unit works.

I'll post a link here soon on how an analog output can be fed into the ECU for datalogging with any datalogger.

Its a DIY job, so id doubt it comes with a nice neat case. But thats not a huge deal - $10 at frys should be enough for an electronic projects box (go look near the circuit boards). In terms of size, its not big at all. The width of two pennys and the length of about 6 pennys.

Ill post up more after i have received the unit.

Ah good man! Im going to guess this is using pin 74/77? If the input is MUT logged without an ECU patch, that would be great. Do you know the voltages each can handle? This is my stumbling block right now.

This unit can also replace your stock rear o2 sensor. This is useful if you want a permanent WB02 without welding a bung. just remember, if you haev a cat your AFR will be anywhere from 1 to 0.5 out, depending on temperature and conditions. If you have a cat, i recommend welding a bung in the DP, just before the cat.

The analog output voltage of the controller can be scaled to match the output of your NB sensor. not sure how the heater check circuit will respond, perhaps the resistor mod is needed. I can report back on this when i have assembled the unit and tried

any updates? Have you installed it yet? Im interested to see where you mount the display, and how accurate this unit is.

I wonder why everyone still uses the serial ports? Isn't USB the way to go?
