Question about MBC
My question is, is MBC worth it on a stock 9 or get a ecu tuned boost? I talked to a tuner and he told me to get a wide band and lose the MBC cause he said I will get more gains off a ECU boost tune rather then MBC and that a MBC for evo 9 is outdated. How true is this? Any help is appreciated.
Current mods:
Greddy Comp Ti-C
Buschurs Intake
Debating to install Buschurs MBC.

MBC's have been around for decades, becasue they are easy and they work.
I'm no expert, but I doubt peak HP will be different. Boost in the lower RPM's would favor the MBC because it reacts fast, while the ECU controlled boost would favor higher RPM's because it can combat boost taper.
It's your call what you want.

... in some cases. I've seen some MBCs hold boost just as well as a solenoid on some Evos.
The biggest benefit to ECU boost is the ability to shift the tq curve around for your specific needs for the car due to being able to dynamically control the boost curve. So, if you could see a benefit for this, then it might be worth the time.
The next benefit is easy of use when running multiple fuels with different boost levels. The solenoid can automatically switch boost levels for the fuels and it's easy to set up to do so.
If you don't fall in to those categories, it might not be worth it. There is nothing wrong with a MBC for most (like 95%) of Evo owners.
