Evo installation notes

The Mach V Evo is UTEC-ified! Works just as advertised -- after using the WRX UTEC for a long time now, this is like coming home again.

Some notes...

- The whole installation is really easy. The last thing that I did that was this easy was...my shift knob. Seriously, I expected it to be tougher, but everything fit fine and bolted right in. The hardest part was figuring out how to get the left-side stop out from the glove box. (You pull it inward and forward from the inside of the glove box.)

- I highly recommend getting the remote map switch. It's difficult to reach the on-board UTEC map switch with the thing installed, and even harder to READ the switch...

- The UTEC works just fine with a USB-to-RS232 serial adapter. Like many modern laptops, ours has no serial port, just USB. I got the adapter at CompUSA for $20.

- The fit of the UTEC in the car is very good! I'm impressed with the clever packaging of the overall unit.

I'll have some Dynojet numbers sometime next week. I'll share them when I do...

Congrats.. (Btw I got the Plug cover) Did you find you had a little difficulty with the serial cable "fitting onto" the serial adapter on the Utec?

Your right about the switch, gotta memorize the direction to turn it, and which way is the direction for the right setting..

I bought a bunch of parts to make my own map switch and clutch switch for the Launch Control RPM Limiter after I got frustrated with the selector switch not being easily visible.

I did have one issue with the install, and it was pretty trivial but the bolt holes were just slightly off that it was difficult to get the last bolt in, but once the threads grabbed, everything came together perfectly.

And yes, if you were wondering, we do sell the UTEC and the Tuner.

MalibuJack, I didn't have any trouble with the serial cable fit.

Glad you got the plug well cover! Do you like it?

Looks amazing! Has lots of room under the cover to swap a set of coil on plug units. Its much nicer than any of the other aftermarket covers where are made of flat stock and don't have any more room than the stock cover. Now I just gotta figure out a way to fire them (HKS DLI-II??)

Quick note here; there is no extra hardware needed for launch control. The factory clutch switch is taken into the UTEC, and is used to activate launch control or flat shift.

Dan,
It’s always great to see one of our vendors taking the time to get familiar with our product on their own car. I appreciate your efforts and I know your customers will appreciate your experience with the UTEC.

Yah, I know.. I didn't want to disconnect the factory switch or splice into it.. I don't recall if the factory clutch switch is a DPST or SPST, if it has the additional contacts (normally used to disengage cruise control) then I'll use that instead.

You don't have to disconnect or splice into the factory switch. It's taken into the ECU and we monitor its position so you don't have to do ANYTHING other then turn launch control on. There is no additional wiring needed. Try it, you’ll like it.

There's no knock sensor installation with the UTEC. It monitors the stock one.

The TurboXS Tuner does have an auxiliary knock sensor.

Nathan, Its good you cleared that up with the switch.. I didn't want to inadvertantly propagate any misinformation in my efforts to do my own switch and map sensor. (Can you PM Me the pinouts on the 4 pin Molex connector for the MAP sensor?) I get really high boost and spoolup with my aftermarket exhaust that I really could use the closed loop features.

And I think RRaulston wants to hook up the knock sensor in the tuner so the indicator lamps on the tuner unit light up and he can use the headphone/amplifier to hear it. I know I had the same question for that exact reason.

i think i will try to install on the BOSS under the exhaust manifold. I will have to have a special bolt made. One side with the thread that matches the engine and the other end smaller so the sensor will slide on and nut it tight. Ime going in...........RRR

The map sensor Molex plug pin-out is as follows

Pin 1 +5V
Pin 2 MAP signal
Pin 3
Pin 4 0V
