Stumbling and spiking

The past couple days my car has been running pretty poorly. In wide open throttle, or close to it, i have been spooling exeedingly quickly and and the rpms jump up really quickly, but do not get a burst in felt power or speed. When this happens, i hear a high pitched whistling which sounds like a vac leak that i have heard on friends cars, however, ive always thought this wouldn allow you to reach max boost and i am instead boosting 8psi instead of 7psi (going up instead of down). Other times in WOT, i will instead stumble and chug pretty bad unable to acclerate or go up in rpms. This happened with the onset of the beginning of our colder weather, went from 70s during the day to 30s during the night in just 24hours time. I checked out my vac hoses and did not see any disconnected, but did not think to see if there were any that were cracked. I also have some crappy mbc that i got from a friend to up me to 7psi from 5psi, if this is the problem i may upgrade to the hallman pro. What do you guys think the problem may be and what i should check?

I would definitely upgrade to the hallman pro, and you also might want to try disconnecting your ecu for about 15 minutes. This will allow it to reset and adapt to your current weather
conditions.

Same thing my car has been doing... near WOT it stumbles like it is misfiring or having fuel cut..... if you granny the throttle will it hold boost and drive OK..mine does but as soon as boost hits 7 psi or higher..stumbling... Thought for a while my BOV was coming open prematurely...

I don't think so Mike...the turbo is definaelty big enough to compensate for massive boost leaks... the problem is I think the ECU reads all this air coming in and gets all jacked up...

The exhaust leak is a much different noise and is pretty easy to find...

so looks liek the problem was as simple as the really fast temp drop. it went back up to the 70s today and it was running fine. i still need to get that hallman pro tho lol.

gotta love FL weather.. it always manages to get right back up to 70 degrees
Good luck finding that out though cause we are bound to drop into jacket weather again sometime soon.

Not to worry you but i'll almost gaurantee that you were detonating a little and that was the stumbly feeling you experienced. If your boosting 8 psi at 30degrees you are going to be running lean. If it is getting that cold out i would keep that boost at 7 or even 6 to be safe. Remember RRM recommends 5 psi even when intercooled to be safe. Experience has shown you can take both to 7 psi but never over especially if your non-intercooled.

I think your lucky your motor didn't pop and you should tone down the boost and get a better boost controller. Sorry to be a drag but i seriously think you got lucky so take it easy k.
