oh no, i hate to start this discussion but i disagree with boost on higher compression engines. Sure you may get more low end torque with 8 psi @ 9.5:1 but your sacrificing the lifespan of your engine. . . . In my opinion anything over maybe 7 psi (at the absolute most) you would want 9:1 or lower (i think 8.5:1 or 8.8:1 would be ideal for 5+ psi). Now i'm not claiming to be some uber import engine wizard, but i had to share my opinion.

I have been looking for forged pistons with a lower compression ratio for the lancer for awhile, so Lanceroz84 please share the wealth on those forged 8.5:1 forged pistons!
So what's the consensus here? With 7 psi of boost, is it worthwhile to source out pistons with roughly an 8.5:1 - 9.0:1 compression ratio?

Cuz this is a very good point brought up about engine life in relation to compression ratio and boost level, seeing as how I don't have the luxury of doing engine swaps either.

funny, but my car only seems to have one catalytic converter on it. I noticed today when I changed the oil. One cat, a muffler or resonator, and the muffer at rear bumper.

Yall must have more restrictive emissions laws than NC does.

wiseco makes pistons for the rage what we did on that system we sent in a stocker piston specified compression ratio and we got the forged ones also contact pauter conrods for good forged rods resonably priced and used on sakura the drag car strong *** rods

I also strongly reccomend decompressing high compression and high boost dont mix on pump ga$$

Your pre-cat is in your exhaust manifold. You only have one under your car.

EDIT: And yes, decompression is a good idea. 9.5:1 CR + boost = knock. (not at all levels of course)

When you get a manual boost controller do not turn up the boost too much and forget synthetic oil if you do that your engine will be fine.
Just curious since I use synthetic oil. What did it do? Synthetic oil is supposed to have better viscosity at higher temps

I used to run 7psi at 9.5:1 all day then i dropped back to 6 psi all day with a dual stage jumping me up to 9psi for racing. I've never gotten the knock at 6psi though i'm on forged pistons. That was also SRI. When i went CAI 7psi was all day with no knock. This is all on 91 octane. Maybe i'm just to good/lucky? Anyway, i'm at 6 all day and i just beat the hell out of the car at Carlsbad raceway. One time i smoked the tires so bad that my tires liquified and rocks became deeply embeded into the tread. I was smacking the rev limiter for atleast the first 60ft... which was like a 2.8 time. I do agree that any high boost on high compression would be fatal. With forged pistons, non-intercooled, cai setup, i ran 9psi and got 13.8 1/4 time. If i was going to run higher than that i'd decompress to 9:1 and if i was going above 15psi id go to 8.8:1 on this motor. Good luck guys build them how you want them but trust me 6psi all day is fine on 9.5:1

I never did get my 1/4 times but i know i was around the high 14's to low 15's at 5 psi. I don't know about the synthetic but when I told rob that he said baddd. My engine blew after I changed the oil to synthetic. 5psi is good enough to run all day and still have fun beating those riced out hondas and acuras and maybe a few mustangs and being an auto tranny at that.
