i wouldn't do it, you save yourself a lot of time, money, and hassle by just getting the intercooler with the kit, that way you have it, the piping, and the outlet on the turbo is facing the correct direction, its just a ***** to go back and do all that later.
also i have been reading threads about forced induction and the who technical side of it just is not sinking in (stupid girl) how hard is it to maintain something like this for someone that isnt as slick as you fellas in the knowledge area?

i agree with hotshot. start off with an intercooled kit. if you want to save a bit of dough off the bat, you could pick up the stg 0 which uses the t25 turbo instead of the stg1 which uses the t28. of course there is a small power trade off, but you save a couple hundred smackers
for maintenance, the usual stuff you do now, just more often: oil every 2k miles (don't miss it, or you will kill stuff). plugs every 10k or so, and be careful of boost/exhaust leaks (just check it like every day when you first put the kit on, then after a while you won't have to check any more)
keep an eye on your gauges, and thats about it, nothing special you have to do really

yeah i would suggest going intercooled to start, then work from there.
Maintnence is very important in this set up, as it is anytime you are putting forced induction on a non turbo car. Basically you just need to check your bolts regularly to ensure nothing is working its way loose due to heat, vibration, whatever, change oil every 3k at most, check for gas leaks any abnormal smells / sounds. It's really not that big of a deal, if your into it enough to spend the money and do it, it's really not a big deal making sure your on top of everything. Technically, you don't need to have that much knowledge to be able to maintain this, all you need are eyes, ears, and nose. if something doesn't look, sound, or smell right there is a good chance it's not right, and it needs to be corrected before you start pounding again.
