Can't Make A Turbo Decision

Right now i plan on making a custom turbo setup for the 02 OZ lancer. The first step i have to take is making a decision on the type of turbo i want to use. So far from the research i've done i see alot of people using the 16g turbo. I'm assuming this is from the RRM turbo kit they provide and from my readings the same one used on the evo VIIIs.
My ultimate goal is have 400hp. I've also read the compressor map reading sticky and i'm still having some troubles understanding it. I just have to read it some more and have a buddy of mine explain it to me. I dont know but when it comes to things like this i need someone in front of me explaining everything out for me.
Yes i do understand you have to replace the stock internals and redo the fuel in the car the only thing i'm asking is what would be the best turbo to support 400hp if everything was done properly.
I've been looking at this one lately and would like to use this

this is the GT2871R (.86 A/R) T25 housing Dual Ball Bearing
but if anyone could provide their experience with the turbos they are currently using now would be very helpful in making my decision.

1. There are many different kinds of 16g turbos depending on the exhaust housing and size and other factors.
2. 400 hp is not even close to easy on a lancer. I think RRM is the closest but I haven't actually seen any dynos yet of the modified shop car nor have I heard of any progress in trying for that goal.
3. The turbo you show isn't a 16g and based on the housing size T-25, I doubt it'll be able to hit you're current power goal (although you're going to have to revise that anyways).
Based on these two things, I would strongly suggest you read the FAQ in my sig and stickied at the top of the lancer general forum.

i guess i wasnt really specific in what i was typing. I understand that the turbo i pictured has a t25 housing, that i do understand. i was just wondering what type of turbo would be capable of producing 400hp. I was just going by what the website provided about this turbo. I was just curious as to why so many people are using the 16gs and not using any other turbos like t25, t28, t3/t4 hybrids and stuff in that nature. i have read your FAQ i just didnt word my question really well or what i'm really looking for. i hope this helps. I really love working on my car i just want to make the right decision in which turbo i want to use and i want to get something different from what everyone else is using. That is the main reason why i choose to purchase this vehicle.

If you want to reach 400 hp you are going to have to go bigger turbo, stand alone and fuel injectors and all that ****. I think you should take it to a shop that can make you a custom set up and tune it to maybe reach your goal safely. I dont think that this is going to be something you want to do by yourself.

People are using the T-25 and T-28 style turbos as that's what the RRM kits originally came with. Some are using the T3/T4 but because of the size of the turbo, it's not a good match for the motor unless you want to do a lot of other mods and push for big power ala Omar. You have a lot of research to do.

yes i know i have to do alot of research. That's what I'm doing right now. And no i am doing this by myself, i would run into lots of problems if i were to do this by myself. I havent really found a shop yet because i am about to get stationed at ft bragg. so as soon as i get there i will go looking around for shops. This is why i posted this thread. I was just trying to figure out which turbo so far has been doing well and been pushing the most hp. I was just curious as to why nobody has tried a different turbo but thanks for all the help guys. I know alot of people has been having issues with clearance between the turbo and the raidaitor so yep just searching the web right now for a turbo that i will like to use.

try my dream setup:
4g64 engine, 4g64 tranny, act stage2 clutch, 4g63 head, kaaz lsd, custom motor mounts, 4g64 ecu, 4g64 waterpump, custom turbo with tuning

4g64 swap has been done before with 167hp untuned
4g64 with 4g63 is popular to people who owns an eclipse and has never been done in a lancer before.

400hp 02-03 lancer? <drool> possible with engine swap and custom turbo, with tun of course

Something else to consider, how will the rest of the car handle 400 hp? Will the brakes be enough? Will the axles handle it? What turbo is right for you depends entirely on the application and your specific preference. Do you want a turbo that hits hard but has a high boost threshold and turbo lag? Do you want a turbo that spools up quickly and reacts quickly but runs out of steam up top?

well i want a turbo that will spool up fast. there's no point in getting a big turbo that will produce lag for an 02 lancer imo. I have been reading some information on the t3/t4 hybrids and i think i might go with this option. Well so far i am leaning towards this just got to do some more research. I do have another question though. I have been trying to find information on what some this means. I dont competely understand the turbo (thus the research im doing) and was just wondering if anybody could inform me with their expertise

Product Information
Compressor Specs:
-56 trim compressor wheel 71mm
-0.60AR compressor housing
-TO4B

Turbine Specifications:
- T25 Flanged
-76 Trim 54mm Gt Series Wheel
-0.64 A/R. turbine housing

CHRA Specifications:
-Dual Steel Ballbearing.
-Oil cooled&lubricated center section.

yes i know this is not the t3/t4 hybrid i just want to know what do all these specifications mean. i already tried searching the web and cant find much info on some of this stuff thanks again for all you're help
