08 Lancer turbo question

OK so I been looking on the forums for a few days now as well as googleing and nothing.

Can someone please answer this question for me, If we(08 Lancer) and the Evo X share the same engine(4b11) wouldnt the evo X turbo fit the standard 08 Lancer?

even if it did there would be no point, we dont have the internals to support the power and the money spent on makin the engine strong enough not to mention changin out the clutch, you might as well get an evo

It should be able to work, IDK what size/trim turbo it is, but it is running a high PSI, change out the wastegate to a lower PSI, grab the injectors and all the required stuff that goes with it, only thing u had to do was to tune it, Im sure if you found a wrecked Evo X u could prolly get all that stuff rather cheap from a junkyard, if its the same size tubo RRM is using in their kit and u make it run 7 psi like they are I dont see a problem in using the stock Evo turbo without changing internals, if you tune it pretty good.

You would have to change the clutch if you turbocharged it anyway, unless u wanna drive with a slipping clutch

Thanks for the reply, I asked this question because I see so many posts of people asking "When is there going to be a kit for 08 Lancer" and 4b11 being the same thats what I thought.

I also read in some other post on another forum that the reason they are switching from the 2.0 4b11(2008) to the 2.4 4b12(2009) is because after Mitsu made both platforms (EVO X and Lancer) with the same motor they realized they made a mistake, Ability to swap all parts. Think about it, When has mitsu used an engine 1 year and the next they changed it? Never. So us 2008 owners should be happy as hell we got one.

The 4b12 is goin to be used in the GTS only, the other models will retain the 4b11. And in any case i would go with the turbo from the upcoming RA, its said to be a smaller turbo than the evo so that would be a safer bet.

The only problem here is that the N/A 4B11 and the turbo 4B11 are actually very different. same size, same shape, but the internal structures are different. The Evo 4B11 is made tougher so it can handle the turbo. It has a different compression ratio and different internals.

I highly doubt "made a mistake" in giving both cars the 4B11. Because the 2009 ES and DE will still have 4B11s. It's only the GTS that's getting the 4B12. This is most likely because they wanted a bigger motor, higher HP GTS to compete with cars like the Civic Si (which gets 50 more HP than a 2008 GTS).

Besides, every Subaru Impreza since 1993 (first year) shares the ability to swap at least some parts. They're like Legos. No one at Subaru seems to mind...

not to mention that fundamentally the semiclosed deck of the 4B11T makes it a different block.

something to mention is that the civic si requires premium fuel. the GTS will not. the GTS is truly a great buy for the money. the 2.4 will compete very well in the segment.

i don't think manufacturers care if you can swap parts or not cuz once you swap anything the warranty is voided. which means they got your money and don't have to give a crap about you anymore. it actually turns out better for them if you swap parts

I forgot about that, thought that ppl may find it interesting :

2 and a half minutes is certainly less time compared to the time it takes to answer every single question about fitting a big turbo on our engine since "its the same as the evo's engine"

I do find it interesting. But I have a short attention span and not a whole lot of free time. I can't watch the video here at work, so I have to try and watch it before bed tonight.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the feedback guys, After seeing that video I do realize that they are slightly different. However does not mean you cant bolt the turbo to it and reduce the psi.

Thanks
Luis

I think they wanted to utilize the outlander engine to utilize production resources better and remove bottlenecks in production and delivery. Last year they fell short big time. I still think the logic is flawed if that really is the case.

We have already heard rumours of additional problems with the SST transmission. I fear expanding the lines to fast will catch up with them. but hey, what do i know
