9psi is fine.. i would recomend going above that though.. all cars are different and can vary as far as rod strength.. ours USUALLY go around 12 or 13.. USUALLY

Sorry.. i made a type-o.. i meant to say i WOULD'NT recomend going higher than 9psi.. 12 or 13psi is the max and the likleyhood of you breaking something is far greater at that high of boost.

yeah most would agree 9-10psi is the max in terms of reliability. and with an aftermarket turbo kit, regardless of modified or stock bottom end, you shouldnt really push the car. As demon said, you can blow it at 6-7psi if you push it for a while. Best bet is to just make sure your tune is perfect, and get a bunch of gauges and watch everything like a hawk. it can really save you costly engine repairs in the long run. EGT is something i always recommend to people because even if your tune is great, if you push the car you might be getting into dangerously high EGTs, so its always good to have that failsafe to see you should back off to avoid damage.

9psi should be fine though as long as you have a good conservative tune. Keeping it rich enough to keep your EGTs and detonation down, but not too rich because then they go back up again (i know, tough to understand haha).

So I will get a egt, oil pressure, boost, and air/fuel gauge. Any others that I need so I can see damage before it happens? Also is 9 psi still to close to damage? should I run 7 or 8 and will this still give me good power. I want to find a good balance

a wideband over a a/f gauge. it tells you more

get a zietronix as a wideband because then you have your a/f gauge and egt gauge all in one. plus there are a few others that you can have all into one box and its a more versatile gauge. i have one and love it.

i would recommend running like 7 psi and then based on your tune get a boost controller and work with it from there. i have a 7psi srping in my wastegate now and a greddy profec b spec II boost controller to set my low boost at like 4-5 psi for a dd and like 10-12 on high boost for racing or trying to get by someone quick on the highway.

Ok I just got a pm about a turbo kit, here is the message
just as an fyi boostin our cars to about 7psi is pretty "safe." now dont get me wrong but anything can happen, where im pushin about 12 still on stock internals, not smart but i do have the fuel there to not melt pistons. im upgrading my turbo and will be selling my turbo setup i have on my car as of now for a lot less than what i paid for it. i spent about $2000 on turbo, manifold, o2, and fuel all brand new and im the original owner. id sell it all for about $1000.

so for $1000, you would get the turbo, manifold, o2 housing and the full side of upper intercooler pipes with the bung for the injector (to add the extra fuel for the system).

all that woud be needed would be an oil kit (can get one from road race motorsports), intercooler, lower intercooler pipe, and some gauges and youd be pretty well set.

Is this a good deal for a 16G
turbo? I am gonna buy a wastegate spring (I think that's it) for 5 or 7 psi. Also I am gonna dyno and flash my ecu

5th injector setups are not the ideal way to do things as 1) they're pretty crude and 2) you need some way to control that injector.

Easier solution (especially if you'll be tuning the car) is replacing injectors. With someone whos knowledgeable with tuning, its no mess, and reliable

Why do the math if the ecu can do it for you

hey sicktght.. would he just be able to eliminate the 5th injector and put some 440's in and get it flashed? should be able to right? and whats the deal with the returnless fuel system since he owns an 04 lancer?

Same question. Can I beef up the system with 440cc walbro pump and all that and get new intercooler piping to eliminate the bunghole? I am not saying JRR is wrong with his setup. He told me that there is a separate controller that adds fuel according to boost.
