She's still putting along. We got into a minor wreck not long ago. Rain slick roads, Tampa stop and go traffic, and locked brakes got me this. Took the bumper off and tried to straighten it out as much as possible. So it is what it is.
The Lancer is still the daily but it needs some work. It's not liking the heat and humidity one bit. Temps are fine on its own but sitting in traffic with the ac on then temps rise. I just need a larger radiator. I'm fine with that but the one I had before, which was an evo aluminum dual core has a ridge on the top and created a vibration against the hood. That and things got really tight in the bay.
That's the most pressing issue, there are other minor things i need to fix. Down pipe rattle, stereo stopped working for some reason, new tires, new belts, new wide band (never messing with prosport again)... Other than that nothing new on that end.
Now the Subaru!... I've been buying some bits. I have the down pipe, new bov/bov ( no I'm not a ricer, the stock leaks above 8 psi) and just got a Cobb access port for the tune. I'm not tuning the car myself. I'm going to pay for a protune. Not going through all that crap again. And a set of tires for this one too. I'm looking at continental extreme contact DWS. Close to 200 a piece.
So here's an update. The lancer has been holding steady. I replaced the radiator, changed to a lower temp thermostat, wrapped DP, replaced timing belt and water pump and a few other maintenance items.
I'm enjoying it as my DD. It's surprisingly nice to have an auto in Tampa traffic. I recently ported the hotside off the Subaru Legacy and threw on a DP and intermediate pipe. I'm looking for a compatible tuner to work with.
Here's what I'd like you guys' input on. I don't know if you guys saw one of the latest MCMs with 2sxy (lancer build) on the road track. Yeah yeah I know an odd inspiration but I've had a small interest in that for a while now but would never commit with the lancer being my only ride. I've been getting the itch for a project car. I'd like to keep the Leggy mildly modded and no more so it's comfortable for family. So that leaves two options.
#1 Go racecar with the lancer
Or
#2 get a new project car. With this route though it can't be expensive. It more then likely would need to be salvaged. I'm in the process of purchasing a home and my wife is looking for a car herself soon. So that leaves a grey area into what I can get.
The pros with sticking with the lancer are I've already primed this car basically. Bbk, turbo, disk rears, minor suspension work. The lancer is a solid platform. It's no Evo obviously but it's alright as we all probably can agree. The parts are relatively cheap and I know this car inside out. eventually I'm still considering a 4g92 head swap.
Cons. Not much HP obviously. While not bad there are still better platforms. I'd sacrifice even more DD availability and I could break or even crash my DD.
If I were to get a 3rd car as I've said buy something salvaged. I know it's all the craze and I've probably been watching too much TV but I have a hard on for a 2jz swapped is300. But I know the costs with the engine being about 2 grand itself. But damn would it rip. I'd have a manual transmission which obviously would be best for this sport.
Cons boi! Start from scratch, more pricey, longer entrance time into racing due to having build the car. But Id definitely have a buildable platform.
I haven't seen Demon in a while..... We need someone to fill his shoes. It would be interesting to push the lancer to its limits. Not many people have. It would be cheaper and like you said, you know the lancer inside and out. Parts seem to be easy to find, including backup engines.
