Upgrades for 2011 GTS 5MT - Where to start?
Upgrades for 2011 GTS 5MT - Where to start?
Hey all - have a 2011 Lancer GTS 5 MT, looking to upgrade horse power and overall performance.
Any pointers on where to begin? Am in the Dallas/Ft Worth area and am fine with getting help from aftermarket shops but not finding a lot in Google...

Check out road racemotorsports
Anyways it really depends on how much money you want to spend.
The obvious first step is intake and exhaust. As far as intakes go, you have to decide between a short ram, and a cold air intake. Most will say that cold air is better, but it runs the risk of sucking up water into your engine. K&N makes the best short ram in my opinion.
Next up is exhaust, again a choice between cat-back and axle back. cat-back will give more performance.
Then you've got headers, dcsports makes a decent 4-1.
You could also look into getting a sprint booster if you don't have an M/T
Of course you could turbo it!
Piggy back ecu, as well as ECU flash, and remaps will great gains.
Don't forget about brakes, you could upgrade the rotors and pads.
Performance tires!
Handling mods like Eibach performance springs.
OMG I could go on forever, maybe you could be a little more specific about what your looking for?

Great - thanks for the information... to be more specific I want more horse power honestly. Been looking into turbos but nothing is very definitive on a process to get one installed.
Other than @ road race motorsports, I see:

Is that an overall great first step do you think towards more hp? Claims 50%+ hp increase which would be nice... Have never installed any aftermarket parts so I'm guessing the process of installing this turbo kit would probably be left to professionals?
Is that really all that is needed to begin with from a stock 2011 GTS?
What about the RRM stage 3 power pack, seems to address a lot of what you were speaking to ... that + the turbo kit should result in a great boost, correct?

every other mod asides from a turbo won't get you as much hp as the turbo alone. the next stage power pro, your looking at somewhere around the 11hp range. The roadracemotorsports kit, is as far as I know, the only full, ready to go kit there is for your lancer (you could do a custom build, which I wouldn't recommend). The kit does include everything that you need to install from a stock lancer. You could do it yourself….if you have all the tools, which i'm assuming you don't, so a professional is going to be your best bet. If you're going to get the turbo kit, which is going to make your car AWESOME, I would suggest grabbing a blow-off valve for a hundred bucks or whatever while your at it. And since turbos force air into the engine by exhaust pressure a new intake and possibly exhaust, would really help it run more efficiently and probably get it to produce that much more POWER. The crank pulley has to do with acceleration response FYI.
Nice, thanks for the info, will look into the turbo kit, an intake and exhaust.
Next step, finding someone in Dallas/Ft Worth with the professional experience to install it all correctly (hopefully with me there so I can learn something during, to continue aftermarket upgrades myself).

I'm not sure if they can work on your car but it would be worth giving them a call.
