GTS Engine Noise

Hello all,

First time poster. Bought a 2011 lancer gts mt about a week ago. Love the car. I had a question about a noise i hear from the car, I am not sure if it normal or not (I'm used to the sound of larger engined vehicles).

The engine noise from my lancer is a very low toned air-y sound...sort of like wind blowing through a wind tunnle. I figure that is normal, however what seems odd is when my car is nice and warmed up and i begin going above 40mph, there is a high pitched noise that accompanies it. It isn't loud or intrusive, but it is easily noticed. The faster I go the more high pitched it gets. Is this a normal sound of the car? Any idea what it might be? The best way I can describe the high pitched noise as is it is similar to the sound an RC Car makes.
Thanks for the help !

It actually a sorta cool unique sound when you pair the low sound with the high sound, just want to make sure I don't need to bring my new car (which already got a door ding(I'm pretty sure there are people that just look for new looking cars to smash their car door into)) to the dealership (which is about 90 minutes away).

I think this might be in the wrong section. Could a mod send this to the right spot and let me know where that might be?

Are you sure it's the engine? It could be tire noise which occurs at higher speeds. If you used to have a louder vehicle (ie V8 with exhaust) you might not have heard much tire noise. Check to see if the air filter is seated correctly.

Go madison! Any recommendations for window tinting shops in the area?

I think it is 4th and 5th gear whining. Ever experience this? The tires might be the culprit but the noise only occurs when giving it gas. I really hope this isnt a serious problem on my 700 miles new car.

w00t! On Wisconsin!

I took mine to TNT Tinting in Middleton. Excellent customer service and a quality job! You'll talk to a girl named Afton. She looks like a smaller version of Avril Lavigne lol.

If it concerns you, take it to the dealership, drive around with one of the techs and have them diagnose it. At this point with only 700 miles on it, it's definitely a warranty issue if it's an issue at all.

What dealership did you go to?

I hear ya. When I got my manual GTS, they had it driven up from St. Louis. At the time there were only 2 in the country, one in black and one in grey. Granted, I bought it in May of 2008 (they had a very early 2009 rollout).

I bought it from Kayser when they still had Mitsu's. Kayser will still do warranty work.

Otherwise, there is Gordie Bouchier on Odana Rd. They sell Mitsu's now too.

If it's making the noise that I think it is. Check your Air Filter Compartment, and make sure that its FULLY sealed. I took my 2010 GTS to a Jiffy lube after I moved out here to TN, and they have no Mistu dealers out here. So I took it in, they changed the oil and all that, and I drove out, and it started making a noise like you are describing. The AF compartment in the engine, is a bit of a pain in the a**. So I would reach down to the bottom of the compartment and see if it jiggles, if it does, then that might be your problem. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't trust any jiffy lube ANYWHERE! They do a hack job. Just google Jiffy Lube customer complaints and you'll see why...
