Thinking of Turboing my 04 OZ. Any advice?

So I spent about 4 hours last night studying up on exactly how a turbo works, and all the mechanics and science behind it. While I don't exactly have the money to buy a kit yet I've been giving the idea some serious thought. With the kit from RRM, exactly how difficult would installing it all be? I'm a smart guy, with pretty good engine know how and understanding. I've read all the sticky threads about forced induction kits front to back a couple of times now. Even the one about building your own turbo kit (it appears more cost effective but seems like it takes a decent amount more know-how to install and make work properly). Any advice, knowledge, tips or warnings are appreciated.

pretty straight forward install if u buy a kit..

most everyone on here has built there own turbo setup and not used a kit.

Technically u can use all oem evo parts and save a ton of money.
only problem is welding up oil pan. has to come off.. be cleaned. taken to tig welder and weld a oil return line on it for the turbo.

OEM intercooling setup. oem blow off valve oem turbo. and just get a speedcorp manifold for our engine. basically all hooked up..
wastegate controll changed to allow lower then factory boost.
hit alocal exhaust shop to weld up the exhaust.
local tuner with some wrx blue 440cc injectors and ur done.

u can get it turbod for about 1000 off used oem parts.
another 200-500 for tuning.. then u can just upgrade to better parts later.

With the evo oem intercooler would I have to mess around with the bumper at all? Or will it fit?

The oil pan isn't a problem, one of my close friends is a welder and will be able to do both the pan and the exhaust for me (most likely for free lol).

Then all I need to do is get a new intake manifold, install the turbo/intercooler/etc and upgrade my injectors to the blue wrx 440cc injectors and I should be good?

exhaust manifold is what u need, not intake manifold. there are no upgrades for the intake manifold other then going to an older mirage intake. but its not needed for a basic build or start.

as for the intercooler. u can look at other peoples build threads to see how they made it fit. no cutting on the bumper just either removing the crash bar and weights. and bolting it to the car somehow. i used a mishimotor g or m line. (the big one) and all i had to do was drill 2 holes to put bolts through.

Dont like my opinion?

Why would trading it in on an evo be a bad idea?

Yeah I meant exhaust manifold. Was pressed for time at work when replying and clearly wasn't typing. Lol. Yeah I'm manual so I'll be sure to remember the external salve.

@Demon_ni2

Yeah, so long as I don't have to cut my bumper I'm content. Drilling two holes sounds a lot easier lol.

It's not that I don't like your opinion, that route just isn't as fun or interesting. Building and installing a custom turbo in my car is both more in-depth and interesting than simply trading it in on an Evo. Personal preference I suppose.

Some bumper cutting is required. You'll need to remove the crash bar as well unless you modify it. The current SC manifold wont work for 04-06 lancers. The external slave is in the way PM beautifulpunk (Chase) we're working on a new manifold Look in my thread. The kit he's working on is way less than a RRM kit as well. He has 2 different options too.

or go the t3/to4e route and by a t3 mirage 4g93 cast turbo manifold. will work just fine.

I can see that.

I was more thinking along "bang for your buck" and it being less of a headache. Either way, enjoy your build.
