This is why AFC's really only work to take fuel away in the lancer not to add. Sure you can add fuel in driveablity as your not in the max/limit of the ecu's map while driving around. Once you floor it and you hit the limitation of the ecu then the afc has no use. Is there ways around this... of course. But that is what tuners like myself get paid to do.

Usually piggy backs(even AFC's since that is basically what they are) all have these restrictions unless the car was made with boost in mind. IE: the mapping has positive pressure adjustability. When you use a Stand Alone you can do whatever you want... including overdriving the injectors. That's the beauty of standalone. Most find that if they are close to 80% duty cycle they just bump up base fuel pressure and you drop down the cycle since you have to tune out the extra fuel from the added pressure(if your on a rising rate regulator).

Tuning 101 is now closed
If i share to much i'll get smacked by the tuning gods for sharing secrets.

That answered my question. Still no luck with the thread, but I think that addresses the issue just fine.

No worries hobbie... for a long time this has been a much debated issue.

It pops up now and again but the fact is not many people play with/understand the stock ecu's of an NA car.

They see a piggy backs maps and think it adjusts in the areas of that map but actually it just fools the stock ecu into thinking it is somewhere else in ITS map. Thus you are always bound by the stock maps parameters no matter what... finding the ways to fool the stock ecu to your advantage is where the real tuning/work comes in.

Turbo cars are easy if they came turbo'd from the factory... but making an NA car turbo is not the easiest thing... especially if your still confined by the stock ecu. That's why i've always said if your going big go stand alone... unless your me and know where you can play and can't play.

Just kidding as there are a lot of people/tuners that know the same things. They just prefer to play with factory turbo'd cars more since they are less restrictive usually.

Cool

So close to completing my kit.......

Ok here are the components and pricing so far:

T25 Turbo - $150
Evo 8 Intercooler - $180
Intercooler Pipes - $120
Boost and A/F Gauges - $70
HKS Turbo Timer - $30
Vortech 12:1 FMU - $100
GReddy Type-S BOV - $150
Custom Oil line kit - $78
Greddy Profec B Spec II - $275
Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump - $90
Misc. pieces (Vac hose, fuel lines, etc.)

Still left to buy:

Up/Down pipes - $510

So if everything goes as planned my custom turbo kit should only cost me approx. about $1,600-$1,700.

I decided to go ahead with the Greddy profec B II rather than a mbc for safety sake

sounds good, can't want to see if this works out for you, looks like you may start putting in your custom kit the same time i start working on my rrm kit.

hehe I can only hope it will fit Since the 04's have the birdnose and a removable plastic insert I'm pretty sure it'll fit with little or no modification to the bumper.

I've been planning on mounting the ic for the past 2 weeks, but just can't find the time. As soon as I get everything I need I'm gonna take about a weeks vacation to make sure I have plenty of time
