i suggest getting anohter head unit. you can do it with the stock one but it wont sound as good. and i am not really sure if you need to drill or not. i havent dont a system yet in my car.

if its the same as the 02, up in the corner on the passenger side there is a grommet hole you can poke out and run some wire. If you do that your going to have to run the wire across your engine bay.

If you drive an automatic, drill out the clutch plate

If its a 5 speed, slide it through the clutch area or drill a hole elsewhere under there.

I wouldn't recommend running it through the clutch area if you have a manual. It is very easy to catch the wire with the pedal and then you could have serious problems. I will be putting mine in this weekend. i will let you know how I do it.

Well, this is a month old now, but no one gave the best answer. (that is, if it is like the 02-03 setup) Underneath the dash, there is a wire harness running into the driver side fender. Pull the rubber boot out and slide the wire through there. If you detach the wheel well from the front driverside fender (just a few clips), you can work the cable along the fender into the engine bay. It will come out right by the battery.

And second question, yes you can use the stock deck. You will have to splice your rear speaker lines and the amp would need a high level input. or better recommended, go to a car audio and by a low level converter (it takes the speaker lines and converts them to RCA preouts. Make sure you get a quality one, not a cheap Jensen one.) Or best advice, take sleek's and get a new deck.

I would highly discourage using the stock deck because it has very high distortion levels very low preouts and not enough preouts to have separate control of speakers or sound if your planning on all the subs and amps your thinking a upgraded head unit should be a no brainer

i wouldnt run it through the wheel well..... to open.. best to keep the wire inside the car as much as possible.

since the car was new i broke down and had BEST BUY instal my own subs, amp and head unit instead of manning up to the job like usually do....they drilled a hole so it would take less mnster cable to run around and around to get to the already tehre holes.....i suggest the same..save 10 bucks on cable for a 3 minute hole job. stay awa from the wheel well. all u need is a cut in the wire and a puddle for a good time. run the wire under the carpet. poke a hole in hte back. the back seat fold down (duh). mount your amp on the box or the back of the back seat. should be golden from there. make sure ur inline fuse stays away from your exhaust manifold or anyhting else that gets hot...ive seen em melt and fizz away....NOT GOOD!

im jus reading more of the threads....its dumb to run it ANYWHERE but right through the fire wall and directly under the carpet. un screw the plastice trim piece that is covered by ayour closed drivers side door. pull up some carpet, feed it through all the way to the back.....the wire should come out in the crack on your back seat.....it hsouldnt take more than like 12 feet of monster cable.......if it takes more than say...15..then your doing something wrong, paying too much, and are askign for porblems.....ziptie your cable to things that wont melt it inside the enngine compartment....or screw your inline fuse onto a heat shield or something (nota fluid tank!).

if you are paranoid about drilling a hole in your car...take it to good guys, circuit city, best buy...anywhere that installs...drive it to the install bay and tell the guy ull give him 5 buck, no questions asked to drill a hole to fit you guage cable. he'll drill it...give him 5$ and drive away.

if ur paranoid about water getting in through the hole they sell spray paint-tpye sealant that acts as rubber... idid that to one of my cars when i hada floorboard leak and solved the problem.....but it shouldnt be an uissue...i didnt bother on my 02 lancer.......
